I created a thread on the adventuregamers.com forum a while back about censorship in adventure games and am in need of more information about the versions sold on GOG.com. If any of you own any of the games on the list, it would be helpful if you could verify their status. I especially need information about non-English versions of the games. A lot of the information I got second hand and may not be completely correct so please notify me of any errors.

The thread isn’t safe for work as it has screenshots of nudity, but it can be found here:

http://www.adventuregamers.com/forums/viewthread/8369/

The easiest one to check is probably Overclocked as the nudity is right in the intro movie. Amerzone is also easy if you have it. Start a new game, go forward and enter the tower, go up to the top floor, pick the book up off the desk and examine it in your inventory.

If you know of anything that isn’t on my list, please let me know. Do note that the list is only for adventure games though.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Some give specific exemples.

I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream: Nimdok scenes removed in German and French versions due to Nazi references. This makes the good ending unachievable in these versions.
This is not actually true. You can still get the best ending, even without that character.
The generally cited issue is that, without Nimdok, you can't lower the bridge at the end, as he's the only one who knows the code to do that.
However, in all versions of the game, any of the other characters can also accomplish it.
Just try to put the code in three times. The first two times, the character will be wrong, but on their third try, they'll say something along the lines of "Didn't Nimdok scream something about 1945?" (at least I think that number was the code, though I may be wrong), so they use that and consequently activate the bridge. Strangely, the mention of "Nimdok" is changed to "AM" in the German version, which makes the line rather nonsensical, but it still works.

EDIT: Great thread, though. I didn't know there were different versions of Yesterday. Makes me wonder if the one I own is censored, but I don't even remember encountering the scene from that picture at all.

Thanks a million for correcting that. I hate perpetuating misinformation. I'll remove that info from the list.

I actually already consulted that thread while making the list. Thank you for attempting to help me out though!

IMHO it would be better to have 2 lists - 1 for censored games and another for banned games. Just my 2 cents. ;)
Never understood that ( and I guess I never will). Killing and maiming is perfectly fine but showing a naked body is some sort of heinous crime.
Since it was on sale today, I went ahead and purchased Amerzone and checked all five versions GOG sells.

The English version is censored. The French, German, Italian and Spanish versions are uncensored.

I'm not sure there are any English versions that are uncensored as the PS1 UK version and the US PC CD-Rom version are censored as well.

I wonder if there is a way to put the uncensored pictures into the English version by pulling files from a non-English version...
