If you’ve been hanging around for a while, especially in the <a href=”"http://www.gog.com/games">games tab</a>, you may have noticed that the growing number of items on our virtual shelf was inching closer and closer to our very first thousand - lo and behold, just this week we made it through our first 1k.

We could start off by thanking the Academy, our moms, and hoping for world peace - and it's not that we don't want to say all those things, but before we do, we want to thank the most important people that made it possible - all of YOU. It may sound a bit turgid and you might not believe that we're tearing up a little as we click "publish" on this piece of news, but you guys are the ones that make GOG.com what it is and our reason to continue bringing you more great games.

Before we break out the fruit punch, though, we want to honor those of you who almost caught up with us. We dug through our records and picked fifty users that have the most boxes on their own virtual shelves.

Let's all give an alphabetically ordered round of applause to:

Antarian, astrugar710, atomsword, AutumnYears, baketomato, Barry_Woodward, benjam47, budejovice, CuriousTwoAtGOG, Darthmort, Disciple_of_Doom, djr155, DonCorleon, Gersen, gorrrrrr, Heirgeir, howardtduck2005, ilcollezionista, jabba1971, JDelekto, KajQrd, kiwy, Kodijack, kotokimura, Lafazar, liquidBass, lobo_1, Loenas, maweball, mrkgnao, MTR77, Murfallo, mwmwm, n0nam3, OlK76, onthemike, palyea, Pantoprazol, sbaylus, Serpico, ShadowWulfe, Silvanus2004, soulroar, tippete, TrevWar, turbond, vasyl, VuA, xckx, and ZombieGum.

We will be contacting these guys personally for T-shirt sizes and mailing addresses for a little, personalized thank-you. We are off to celebrate - but before we go, here's to another thousand digital boxes on the GOG.com shelf!

GabiMoro: From that list only Barry, budejovice and mrkgnao are the ones that I saw on the forum.
I have also seen Gersen, Lafazar, JDelekto, Serpico, ShadowWulfe, soulroar, and xckx.
You have a business model that works and your success proves it. I no longer use any other game site for my games, my other libraries sit unused. If I do try and access the games there the process is invariably unpleasant with bombardment of ads or a long often glitched verification process. God forbid if you have a new computer then you may even be perma locked out of redownloading the game due to restrictions on that. It only verifies that you are tossing your money at an ephemeral entity, that you have no ownership, only a vague rental on your entertainment. Add in the extremely creepy realization that in order to have your fun you allow them to snoop and pore over your private business. Screw em.

I carefully back up all my purchases here and just having those games forever, like in the old days of boxed sets is such a wonderful nostalgic feel. Included are many old time manuals, art, avatars, dev commentary tidbits and music. Even if its all digital it is greatly appreciated. Not only do you showcase long lost games, all of which you make sure work on new systems, but you are now getting more new titles as well, which is great! more choices the better.

The community is also a great attraction, from the helpful and fun forums to the incredible streamers who showcase the GoG titles.

Well done! I thank you team of GoG
Looking at some game distribution trends over the past 10 year or so, I'm really glad to have GOG.com. Not only for modern, modernized and fair offers, but also for having a huge community and shop somehow opposing DRM extremism.

Go on like that, and we'll be with you.

Flaose: Congrats, JDelekto and all the others in the Top 50. You're Winner!
Are you the same who streams? If so, you're the winner! :)

tinyE: We are waaaaay off topic, even for me. XD Maybe we should take this to another thread?
Who are you?
What have you done to tinyE?!
You are so welcome... Though you did make it a bit easier by splitting the boxes with multiple games into separate packages on the shelf :-)

That's excellent advice. I back up all of my purchases too. However, I'm wondering why, since they have so many good old games that run on DOSBox, that they aren't also targeting the 'Android' market. There is a very capable developer out there with a DOSBox clone.

It might be for memory considerations, most likely, but I think running a classic game on new hardware is just as significant as running a new game on classic hardware. Now that's harmony.

The cake is that tinyE was whisked off to a place far away so he could be studied in how he reacted in different physical environments.

The cake is a lie.

Nice double-entendre there! :)

I thought I was the only one who saw that, just waiting for someone else to pipe up. I'm pretty sure that dealing with game distributors is probably a long and complex process where the executive leaders meet over a drink or two, someone on the side quotes some numbers and one of the gets a call and they say "do it".

skeletonbow: ...............

I've got 335 bundled games that amount to 402 unbundled titles now on my shelf including the Galaxy client, which is approx 1/3 of the catalogue. There are about another 150 titles on my wishlist, but it blows my mind that some people have almost the entire catalogue. Not in a "why????" sense, because I can think of a number of viable reasons for someone to do that, but it is still impressive whether one does it because they can afford to and they want to vote with their wallet for DRM-free gaming and support GOG for doing this and feel they are in a position they can do that, or whether they are just collectors that can afford it and derive pleasure collecting or even those who might have a disorder about it. Either way - wow! :)

gamesfreak64: 402 games ? thats alot i only have 304 games including a few that were free like beneath a steel sky...
i am only 220 days on gog so thats not bad 304 games total thats almost a game every day.. if i had more cash i might have 600 now
but the fact is also that theres a lot of 3d FPP games published all over the world and those are not my cup of tea, so compared to that i already have a very nice collection in such a small period.
I've technically had an account on GOG since 2009 for a free game at the time, but picked up more of the freebies over a few years without really knowing what GOG was all about, just didn't look closely enough at the site. I'd check it out for freebies occasionally after that and at some point in 2012 actually discovered the whole GOG philosophy/model and was kind of blown away both by it and the fact I'd had an account for 3 years and never caught on. :) I think I had 6 or so freebies at that time and finally I made my first purchase in Oct/Nov 2012 and by the end of the year I had bought about 100 games. :) The rest mostly came from the seasonal sales promos and other promos since then and the occasional giveaway winning or gifted freebie, mostly the sales promos though. (LOL, I typed "sales pornos" then had to fix the typo... )
Ok, ok, now hold the fireworks :P. Yes, 1000 is a nice round number, but the truth is every game that gets released here warrants a celebration.

I've been with GOG for some years now and I've enjoyed seeing it grow. I've bought games I never ever, ever would have thought I'd be able to play hassle free, DRM-free, on a modern-day system.

To be honest, in the pre-GOG era I never thought *this* (as in something like GOG showing up and enduring on the market) would ever happen, but I'm glad you proved me wrong. There's nothing I can say that would express my deep appreciation for the work you guys have done.

Of course there have been some hiccups along the way, but let's not ruin the moment, shall we? :P

And remember: "To infinity and beyond!". Don't get hung up on powers of 10 :P.
Well earned, with a few frequent contributors and many a quiet collector! I hope we shall see GOG prosper and grow beyond leaps and bounds into the future.

I have to personally thank all those people who fought hard to get those games on GOG. I know there are a lot of old games out there and rights issues, and people have to seek permission, compensation, etc.

But I cannot have these games on my shelf if it weren't for those fighting to get those games on GOG in the first place. My hat is off to those persons and my eternal thanks!
