So yeah, I see this game on Steam, it has a very positive rating. But not for GOG, it's quite terrible. What's up with that? Is the GOG version of the game is not updated or supported to match the Steam version? I ask because I am interested of the game, I want to buy it someday, but the rating on GOG makes me unsure and worry about it. I mean, I am not going to buy a game that don't treat their customer from different platform equally.

I doubt the game is different between stores, it's just that there are two different sets of reviewers. Plus there are not as many people on GOG, so a few reviewers with some bias, either positive or negative, will have a bigger influence on the overall rating.

Personally I think the GOG rating is more accurate, since I bought it on Steam when it was first released (back when I still bought games on Steam), and refunded it after trying to play it for an hour. While the idea is good, it was just very amateurishly done, and I'm surprised GOG's curation was OK with it. It may have been improved since the initial release, but I see some quotes in the GOG reviews like this: "I was forced to use an X-Box controller, keyboard, and mouse at the same time," and yeah, that was exactly my experience.

It’s not comparable. Steam has 1527reviews, gog has maybe 20. Also, those who use steam are somewhat a different group to those who use gog. I mean, let’s face it the call of duty games are very positive on steam which just goes to show you shouldn’t trust them. As for wether they are updated:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/games_that_treat_gog_customers_as_second_class_citizens_v2
Shows any game which is lacking updates. Couldn’t see anything.

The game looks pretty awful, and I just checked, and I own it! Version is 1.1.83, no change log.
Steam and gOg have very different user review system.

gOg uses a 1-5 star system, which means that a 3 star game is a bit meh, but playable and you might like it, so a game can get 3-4 stars and be an ok game, and the user kind of recommend it.

steam have a binary 'recommend' - 'not recommend' system, so the users which may have put 3 stars on gOg might click 'recommend' on steam instead.

this leads to different ways of reading the user reviews, and which you prefer is up to personal taste. However, it also means you can not compare the stars on gOg directly with the % on steam.

While 3.6 is far from terrible, there really is not that much to this game, to be honest. It gets repetitive pretty fast and there is barely any challenge later on. Also, what drove me nuts is that the character doesn't move with a moving platform when he stands on it, instead he stays in place and the platform moves below his feet, which can result in him falling off. The main reasons I bought the game, anyway, were that it was really cheap when it was released (I think it had a 90% discount) and that read the soundtrack was good, and it really is not bad (and by the way, it is included for free on GOG, but costs extra on Steam). Not sure I can recommend it at full price, though.

Oh, okay. From the explanation, I guess GOG reviewers are much more critical in giving a rate or recommendation to a game. I can use that for extra reference before deciding to buy a game.

Anyway, where can I see the change log or update history for a game I haven't bought? I can't find any button for it. Looking for it at the discussion is honestly quite a hassle, and it's hard to know if a game is being equally maintained or not.

It doesn’t matter if you could see the change log, which you can only see if you actually own it, as there isn’t one for this game.

I bought it when it got released here. Mind you: at that time it was only €1,25 (=90% off).
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/release_regions_of_ruin_11e43
(thanks to JackKnifeJohnson for his amazing work of achieving all release threads)

I liked it enough to sink a few hours in it.

However, while playing it, I also encountered a bug(?) that first disabled my keyboard and then forced me to do a hard reset.
And according to the site, that karnak1 has linked to, the build is still the same that I bought and played (1.1.83), so - there may be a chance that you experience the same bug.

All in all I would say: if the description of the game sounds interesting to you, wait for a sale and then get it.
I would certainly not have had as much understanding for the crash, if I had paid €11,99 - that's for sure.

I am not trying to buy the game anymore (the game sounds unpromising). I ask it for another game, just in case.

Thanks! The web shows everything, even the thing I am not looking for. This is quite perfect! Anyway, why GOG doesn't have this in their web? This is very useful to track things up. I mean the database web is a third party, right? Why don't GOG have something like this of their own? Or maybe, why not just adopt this one?

I think I am just gonna spend my money for something else more polished and less fishy, but thanks anyway!
