Non-Disclosure Agreement. Basically a document saying that you can't talk about this, or this, or that, or the other, or X, Y, and Z, or where Konrad's body is stashed or whether PaterAlf prefers boxers or briefs or revealing that the Judas + Fables ship is headcanon for Thiev.
In this particular case, probably a lot of financial info and future plans and whatever they're not allowed to discuss.

I'm not sure what that is, but I want one.

mechmouse: What's it like knowing all thins juicy information and not being able to tell anyone?
avatar
JMich: Well, we could actually talk with each other, so not that bad, but otherwise it is a pain. Especially when you see a post, you know you can actually give an explanation, but the NDA prevents you.
So you now know how I feel. :P

The timing of this seems a bit suspect. GOG must be ready to drop some nefarious changes. 8) really I think this is cool miscommunication causes so much misunderstanding so I am happy they are communicating in a different way.

Wishbone: Aaaaand this is the Scandinavian, finally checking in. I think that's all of us?

Just my luck that this went up today. I've been at home all week with a horrible cold. Today was my first day back at work, so I've been frightfully busy, and I had a social arrangement after work. I just got home to see this thread. I don't have the time or the energy to go through it all right now (it's past midnight here), but I'll read it all tomorrow morning and comment here and there, as well as give my personal viewpoints on a few things. Right now, I'm just too damn tired.
Nice to see you here as well, Wishbone and I hope you are feeling better.

lazydog: A good few of the people who were there are offline. I hope you will not be offended if I say I am more interested in waiting to hear what they say than replying to you.
Zeogold explained quite well what happened and what GOG's intention imo was. To be honest I was fearing that some people would think we are now GOG puppets just telling everybody all is well because GOG told us so. They showed us everything, we now know a bit more but just like GOG we cannot tell anything crucial so why even bother?

Like it was said before we are not just GOG fanboys and we often critiziced several things and decisions GOG made. It would be lying if I would tell you that I was not there to see GOG and meet the people but that is only a part of it. I also hoped to have the opportunity to tell them some of my concerns and of the things I read in the forums that people are more than unhappy about. In fact, according to my invitation (which I got before I signed the NDA) they were also aware that I am not a fanboy:

"We are really appreciative of your continuous input and activity on the GOG.com forums as well as for all your help with German materials for some of our games. We’re also aware of the fact that you’ve not so long ago voiced certain concerns and worries regarding some of our recent actions and steps."

So no, I am not a fanboy but I care for GOG and this community and I don't want to see it going down. So we all took the opportunity to ask them as many questions as we could and it was not like "Why did you..." and the answer was "Because of ..." o.k. next point. We analyzed the answers they gave us and we just stopped asking when we got all information we needed to accept the explanation. This whole thing was more like a round table with arguments and counter arguments and GOG wanted us to be thorough - we tried to be but we are still no professionals just community members.

So we got some information (we were just there for 1.5 days so of course we still don't have all informatioans and like I said we surely have missed to adress the one or the other issue) and now, what to do with it so that it is useful for the community as well? So we decided to make this post (actually JMich made the draft and we discussed days what we should add and how we should phrase it) to give the community as much informations as possible without going against those NDAs (GOG is a big business and they also have legal obligations to their partners so some of the informations we got simply aren't allowed to be shared - that is nothing unusual even though it would be far more easy if those NDA did not exist). We are not spokesmen for GOG - we never were. These are OUR impressions and these are the explanations we accepted after discussing about several issues for quite some time. I am pretty sure that nobody ever expected that this event or even this post would now calm everything down and people would say "oh, they say o.k. then it is o.k." but we thought the community should profit from our meeting as well. That is the reason for this post. We were never ordered to do so - we thought it would be good and people at GOG simply agreed.

Don't know if this actually answered any of your concerns but maybe it helps understanding the situation and our expectation regarding this post a bit better.

well, sorry to say that, but i already reached such a point with last few "off limit" moves from GOG, that now no NDA-shielded damage-control PR operation will change things from my side. Some reasons to my feeling are still in place and seem not to be solvable anytime soon.

GOG is on my defiance and non trust-worthy list tbh... and it is really painful, daily basis, to both trying to promote drm-free gaming all around me while at same time being prevented* to recommend or promote GOG as an obvious complement. (* prevented by personal ethic, honesty to my interlocutors and overall consumer-defending stance)

it puts me in a very awkward position... the other major drm-free games store being obviously not on par with the parts of GOG that are somehow "working as intended", and very few minor stores (minor regarding their drm-free offer) are out of league too...

so, well, i dont expect nor ask nor care about sharing "numbers", financial secret records and such; that wouldnt be of any help afaic so i have no problem with that part... But lets face it, how can someone expect to clean up and improve relation with its community/customer base through transparency yet at same time shielding some other obvious required disclosures behind an NDA. Basically it's like phoning someone just to tell him you dont want to talk with him !

For now, i'm fed up with sweet promises about how tomorrow will be better, will do efforts, everything will get back to normal, and other damage control PR usual dishes ! I will wait for actual actions and transparency to really be in effect.

lets hope that most of GOG customer base to be convenientely more gullible than my meanie self, shall we ?

I love this reply XD
How nice that they picked out a few members to invite... I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a touch hurt I didn't get the opportunity to turn them down. But we all love GOG, or at least we want to. I just hope they're serious about fixing issues and not blowing smoke. But how can we tell? The actual proof of everything is hidden behind NDAs... Utter uselessness overall. I hope those 6 members feel better about GOG as a whole. I don't.
avatar
BenKii: You mean you didn't get an invite? How could Gog not invite the Great Puzzlemaster into Gog's inner sanctum. :P
avatar
zeogold: I mean, as notable as I am, what would I do? I don't have even half the tech and money knowledge that those who got an invite do, not to mention I haven't been here nearly as long (they can talk about pricing issues and forum problems in much smarter detail than I can). Not to mention I'm not even a "loyal" customer so to speak, considering I use Steam more, nor am I somebody who was pissed off enough to stop buying from them. The most I could possibly do is give them information about the community itself and the people in it. Other than that, all I'd be doing is regurgitating information I've gotten from other people.
It would have been awesome to be invited to the home of the Witcher. :) But like you, I have the same weaknesses. At least I did get a GOG T-Shirt for having one of the largest number of games in my catalog. ;)
