An essential but not exhaustive list of awesome downloads, to be precise.

The Witcher series is now ten years old. From its humble beginnings to the AAA titan of today, the series has fostered a passionate and loving community dedicated to doing even more with the greatness.

As part of our anniversary celebration, the team at Nexus Mods was kind enough to talk about some of their favorite mods for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. If you're in the mood for something more classic, make sure to also see what's out there for The Witcher and The Witcher 2 – you'll find more than enough to warrant a whole another playthrough.

True to the spirit of PC gaming, just about every mod below is designed to help you personalize your experience and really make it yours. So read on!

Nexus Mods' Essential Mods for The Witcher 3
By Jim Fitzpatrick (aka TerrorFox1234)

For this feature I tried to stay away from mods that change the overall balancing of the game. Instead, the focus will be on "quality of life" mods and useful utility mods. I must admit, this was a difficult list to put together. I had to cut a lot of really great mods! As always, mods are subjective and this not a definitive list. Let us know what you would add!

Script Merger
Ok, so this first one isn't a mod. This utility allows you to resolve conflicts between mods that modify the same game file. No need to choose between one mod or the other (in most cases). If you plan on using a lot of mods, you will want to grab this.

Absolute Camera
This mod gives you complete control of your camera settings in every possible situation. Configure your camera settings for everything from meditation to sailing with an in-game menu.

HUD Positioning and Scaling
Just as the title implies, this mod lets you completely revamp your HUD to your liking. Move, resize, and hide/unhide any element using in-game controls.

All Quest Objectives On Map
This mod comes in 3 flavors; Lite, Standard, and Full. Decide which version to use to gain a better view of your quest locations. I would recommend the Standard version for a good middle ground between features and compatibility with other mods.

Sort Everything
The ultimate inventory management mod. Sort alphabetically, by level, or by location. Pin recipes to the top. It applies to the menus for alchemy, crafting, glossary, bestiary, inventory, and quest journal.

Manual Trophy Equip
This mod prevents newly acquired trophies from auto-equipping. Simple as that.

Better Torches
This mod lets you keep your torch equipped while climbing, casting, blocking, and on horseback. It's especially handy when encountering baddies at night or in dark interiors.

Auto Apply Oils
When entering combat, this mod will scan your foes and automatically apply the oil best suited to the situation. It's a small QoL tweak that lets you spend less time in menus and more time focusing on combat.

AutoLoot Configurable All-In-One
Do you always loot specific items from dropped baddies? This mod takes the work out of the equation. It is highly configurable (as the title implies) with a wealth of features for deciding the how, when, and where of auto-looting.

Roach Never Stops
This simple mod prevents Roach from getting stuck on small rocks, bridges, water, and other obstacles. Get where you're going faster!

Unofficial 1.30 - 1.31 Mod Update Project
This last one is also not a mod, per se. Rather, it is a compendium of patches to update out-of-date mods (including a couple of the mods listed here). You will definitely want to track this project and take a look over the list to ensure that all of your mods are up-to-date.

Auto apply oils? Doesn't that kind of get rid of a feature?

I would list as essential:
· All NPC Scabbards https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1569/?
· Olgierd's Scabbard for Olgierd's Sabre https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1795/?

And for personal preference I used but wouldn't call essential
· Ciri Bath Bandage Removal (looks weird to be the only one covered) https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/888/?
· Remove Item Level Requirements (techically a cheat and removal of a feature, yes, but I prefer it this way for this game) https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1542/?

I'll bookmark All Quest Objectives On Map for the next time I play. I want to start a new plathrough of all three games. :)

Used a couple of these in my run, as well as several others not mentioned. One thing I always try to grab on any game that's moddable is a removal of carry weight restrictions. I'm too much of a packrat in RPGs to have a weight limit. :P
high rated
And this is why I believe 100% that CD Projekt RED or gog.com will never add a GOG Galaxy Workshop ever.

Thank you gog.com for continuing to support websites that let PC gamers who make their mods to be able to upload their mods like the Nexus mods websites and modd.com.

After all the exclusive mods on Steams Workshop that we cannot download for the PC versions of the video games sold on gog.com hurt all of us PC gamers who enjoy modding and are tied to auto-updates that can make your video games crash depending on certain issues and break your saved games.
The one essrntial mod missing here, shows why GOG shouldn't let Nexus Mods staff make these lists.
Apart from the fact theey will only pick out mods hosted on their site.
They also have a vested interest in ignoring Mod Managers when it's a game on NMM (Nexus Mod Manager).
Though, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt this time, but can't take any list seriously that doesn't havr Friendly HUD in it.

The Witcher 3 Mod Manager by Stefan3372

Is a very recent mod first uploaded almost 3 weeks ago, on the 30 Sep 2017.
It's still getting rapidly improved, but right from that first release, it's became the best Witcher 3 utility, since Script Merger arrived.
It's already the only competent manager that can install mods with bin files automatically

The currently listed features are impressive, and getting better each update.
It not only installs full mods correctly, it edits both input.settings, and user settings as well.
Automating everything that NMM needs doing manually, a scene changing mod manager

From the Mod page

What is it?
It is a tool that allows you to install and uninstall Witcher 3 mods in one click with a meny more features!

They seem to have forgotten 3 of the best mods: Friendly HUD, Preparations Mod and Ghost Mode.
Glad to see Absolute Camera made the list though.
Thank you. Updated info is always welcome.
I only need unlimited weight.
Mhm, since I'm playing on PS4 I've not had the opportunity to use any mods, but to me, some of those "essential" mods seem a bit underwhelming.
Nonetheless, it's always good to have more choices, and if some people really need their oils auto-applied (or can't handle the awesomeness of Roach, and I do say this unironically) then more power to them :)
I just expected something... a little more meaty, I suppose...

How about that "fast travel anywhere" mod, has that been made to actually work without screwing up a bunch of quests?

All of these look great! Especially Preparations Mod, seems that way you can make alchemy work a little more like in TW1, which had my favorite alchemy system of the three.
I'm currently using a mod that makes Alchemy more like the Witcher 1. And it makes things more... interesting.

I agree. Where are the mods for auto-combat, auto-questing and auto-dialogues?

Yes, I'm exaggerating, but again, I only see "essential" mods that don't fit the term at all. They rather seem very arbitrary and optional.

The best one is the Mod Update Project. It's "essential" only if you use (the right kind of) mods at all, so it's kind of a circular necessity.

Well how about the mod that turns you into Deadpool, Big Boss, or Link?
Those are as essential as can be.
I also used the unlimited weight mod, more skills or whatever since I like passive perks, the updated textures are super nice, a mod to reduce the ridiculously bendy trees to something more reasonable. I don't remember what else I used. These mods are all pretty non essential.
I don't use any of those (playing the game in Wine).

My mods:

* No talk icon and no button prompt (declutters in-game UI elements).
* Friendly meditation (I really like it).
* More quickslots

Sort everything looks useful though, I'll try it out.

The fact that the game needs a script merger shows that TW3 developers didn't think modding through. That merging should have been done automatically by their engine, using scripts from each mod.

LOL, I personally hated the manual oil apply feature in The Witcher 2 so didn't buy The Witcher 3 until the Auto Apply Oil mod came out :D

I like to think of it as similar to the Starcraft 2 workers auto-rally at the start of a game :D
