Greetings!
I already have some sound-trouble with Gabriel Knight 2 and now Gabriel Knight 3 wants me to "Please Insert CD1" right after I try to launch the game. What to do?
I'm happy at least Gabriel Knight 1 is playable :-)
Best regards,
Chris

Are you using the shortcut gog provided to start the game and not trying to run the exe from the folder and did you install it as is or did you add any mods to it?

I used the shortcut GOG provided and didn't apply any mods or patches. GK3 still wants me to "Please Insert CD1" right after launch.

Did you ever have this game installed before on that computer with the cd version?
The game originally had a CD check DRM. You could try a No-CD patched exe. It is not too hard to find with Google. I am surprised that GOG would not have done this.

They should have done that considering you download the game and get no discs. ChristianHaH is the only person on the forums complaining about it so far though so either no ones else is having problems or they are not coming on the forums to say so, or its unquie to him.

Edit: Just downloaded and installed the game and i had no problems launching the game.

No, I didn't.

I tried a No-CD patched exe but it didn't work. GK3 still wants me to insert CD1.

I didn't install GK3 in the default location, but since GOG gives you the option to install the game in a custom location it shouldn't be a problem. Still I guess this could be a possible way to a solution. Maybe I just have to change a path-information somewhere in a GK3-file or in the registry?
Another possible starting point:
For my GOG-games I'm using an Asus-Netbook which hasn't got a CD-drive. Maybe that's somehow confusing GK3? Never had any similar problems though...

GK3 has always been a little flaky about paths and the registry. Look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sierra On-Line\Gabriel Knight 3\app and post what you find there.

This was the problem on my Netbook. I found that installing Virtual Clonedrive (or similar virtual CD tools) from Slysoft was enough to get the game to run. Virtual CloneDrive is free, so I went with it. GK3 apparently just needed to see a CD drive attached to the computer, and this was the fastest and cheapest means available to do so.
Hope this helps.

I installed Virtual CloneDrive and now GK3 runs without any problems. Thx for the solution!
Thanks for the hints and the solution.
I will try Virtual Clone Drive, too.
Thanks to all of you.

I realize that the game only costs $5.99, and after I put real effort into it, I did manage to work around the "Insert CD" issue.
"Solved" is a generous, relative term.

Excellent. I got the "insert CD1" message as well when I installed on my netbook. Thanks for the info!!
