FEAR - Low FPS fix - without disabling HID-Devices
---created by Methanhydrat. I'm posting here at his request.

Link to the page explaining the fix:

This new version no longer requires Visual C++.

Short Explanation:
The fix is a dll file without the constant checks for HID devices. No constant checks for unused devices, no slow down.

It has been confirmed as working by several people. I did a Virustotal online virus scan to scan the dll file with 56 different programs and they all said it was clean. Rescan it yourself if you want.

Thanks again to Methanhydrat for the fix.

Thank you for creating the thread. The fix is also available in the guides section of Steam.

For anyone who is curios, the fix has also been confirmed to be working with Condemned: Criminal Origins, which uses the same engine as FEAR an its expansions.
Thanks so much for this, it works perfectly! Was having real problems with this game on Win 10, even disabling HID devices no longer worked. Really appreciate what you've done.

Would you mind if I ping Gog staff to see if they could update the download to include this? It's practically essential!

I'm not sure whether it is legally possible for GOG to just release a game with a third-party fix or if they already did something like this in the past. But it would definitely do no harm asking about it.

I updated the fix so that installing the 'Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable' package is no longer required. Maybe you can update the initial post to reflect that. The link to the updated version is the same as the old one.
Does this work in Mini Ninjas or Condemned Criminal Origins too? I remember those 2 games having the exact HID device issues like FEAR.

This fix has confirmed to be working for 'Condemned: Criminal Origins' too, since that game uses the same engine.

Regarding 'Mini Ninjas', I don't know whether it will work. However, the fix is completely agnostic toward the game that uses it. So if a game has problems that are related to 'DirectInput', this fix or an altered version of it could, in theory, solve the problem.

That's good to know. I just tried it myself, worked great in FEAR. I'll try with Mini Ninjas and Condemned Criminal Origins later as well.

I updated the original post.

Thanks again.
Terrific! Thank you.
Thank you very much! This thread should be pinned to the top, very useful information.
I uploaded the fix to PCGamingWiki. This makes the file a one-click download independent of Dropbox. Additionally, PCGW is a well known site and all files have to be approved before they are made available. So this might increase the trustworthiness of the DLL for some people.
