Well I've written twice to GOG.com and still no reply on this issue. It's the same as other people have written about: unplayably low FPS. This is the first time I've really felt let down by GOG.com as this was in all fairness a complete waste of money. Perhaps it will work on XP (I'm on 7, 64 bit at the moment), but that's a bit annoying just for one game.

Same here. I can't get it to run in window7. The screen switches to 256 colours (no matter what compatibility options are on), then goes black, and that's it. Only killing the process helps getting out of there. Out of curiosity I tried getting it to run in wine, with the same effect (although I do get to the DI logo with the rotating globe in wine at least).

Anybody got this to run?

EDIT ; Fixed it by disabling Force Feedback in the joystick panel! Now it runs smoothly! (killing explorer before the game starts helped with some bliking screen problems too)

hey guys,i got this game to work by disabling DEP for it in win7's "Performance Information and Tools>Adjust visual effects>Data Execution Prevention"

Somehow this has helped me many times with trying to get older games to work, and hasnt let me down yet ;)
I can't get it to run too
I'm on win 7 64 bit
I'm under Windows 7 32 bits and NVidia.

I've set compatibility mode: Windows XP SP 2, disable desktop theme, disable desktop composition and run as administrator.

It works.
Another Win 7 64-bit user here. The best I can do is turn off compatibility mode, which allows me to play Quickstart. Still, it's a pretty unpleasant experience. Probably the only GOG game I've bought that has serious issues. I guess there are bad apples in every barrel...
What OldOldGamer prescribed worked.

Windows 7 Enterprise x64 with NVIDIA Quadro 580.
Wellll, these days screen drawing is dodgy when returning to the menu screens, and I can't get any joysticks recognized.

I'm running this from a Windows XP virtual machine on a Windows 7 x64 host. Works great.

Haven't tried it from the "XP Mode" virtual machine that Microsoft provides free, but it may be worth a look as a workaround since GoG doesn't seem to be forthcoming with a fix.
This game run fine in Windows 7 x64 when the compatibility settings are applied to f18start,exe file. May be that GOG have put the compatibilty settings on the wrong exe?

I got stuck at the second DI world animation but then I got passed it and was able to configure aircraft, but not play yet.

I found at that running config.exe, admin vs. standard user the settings are different. This enabled it to work better as I could now actually adjust settings for the account being used. :-)

I had to wait for the logo to go away, after escaping.

The old files in the LOG directory are used as save game files. You might also want to try using F18.exe instead of F18start.exe as a trial as stated by other users.

Update --Success: got on the runway by going to F18.exe and using Windows95 for compatability mode options, I also had other boxes checked except 640x480. For now in config I turned off movies/whatever its called. On the runway Control Q exits the mission. Now just get to train. ha using F18.exe to start it.

As a suggestion
Maybe play with the options for DXWnd on sourceforge.net anyone?

Thanks for your fixes. But there is no success. FA-18 dosn't work under Win 7 64 bit! For the first time, GoG brought an old game which is not functional.
