I don't have the game yet, so I don't know how bad it really was, but there is a reason why one shouldn't preorder digital games. It's great that pople wanted to support the pulisher, especially if it's a genre that’s rare these days, but we all know that publishers cannot be trusted to deliver complete working games anymore. At least it took them less than a week to release tha patch, so I guess it could have been worse. Alternatively they could have just delayed the game for one more week, but I don't know if they have been under pressure to ship withut delay.
They'd announced a date? They have a window before stardocks game and aow3. They are self funding (no kickstarter in mother russia apparently)?

Do snowbird deserve criticism for shipping a game with known bugs? Yes of course, this is always to be depreciated.

Do they deserve to be singled out for extraordinary criticism they have received here? No they don't. If you feel let down then you should also have a sense of proportion and justice. This game is less buggy than many from paradox, firaxis, ubisoft and the rest of the usual suspects. Why the dogpile on a small developer's low cost game that is being actively patched?

From the level of vitriol here I'd formed the impression that snowbird were a bunch of scumbags who were going to drop the game moment it went gold.

It's because those buggy Ubi-EA games don't get released here. Gogers aren't used to this kind of beta testing. That's why new bugfests receive a harsh response, Omerta did,too (mostly for being mediocre).
I love genesis enough to not ask for a refund but I do feel cheated here and that gnawing feeling in my gut about it is something I haven't felt since I got my toys stolen in the playground.

Just had some minor bugs but that is more about not being able to force myself to play for more than an hour or two.
Some of the design choices for this game is just atrocious!
It is like they just copied genesis and then spent 15 minutes talking about how to improve design and then had a guy or two work on the graphics while everyone else on the team worked on another project.
They did some nice things with those 15 minutes but the number of things they made horrible just breaks my will to play the game.
In a way I am happy this was just a copy of genesis as I in no way feel any need to try and play broken world to check out the story or new units/strategies and such.

I doubt this will ever get patched enough for me to enjoy it but I will continue to enjoy genesis and just hope that someday there will be another game that at least comes close to it.

Oh and I put no blame on gog for this, this is what you get for preordering really!
Somehow even kickstarter seem safer to do these days...

mattymuc: I'm also desperately disappointed that the game has been advertised as "a long-awaited continuation" and not as a remake.
In fact thats the main problem for me. If I preorder, than I'm aware, that the game might be buggy at release time (especially if it is such a small company with nearly no experience). But I didn't expected gog to decive me. And that is not the developers fault (for people vising their homepage, it was clear, that we would get just a remake), but completly the fault of gog.com . I will never trust any information presented on gog.com in the future.

I was greatly disappointed- Like Heroes IV - why add a bunch of 3-d action (especially that slows game play considerably) and not add to the texture or richness of the game - I would rather have 2-D and they put the effort into more races, combat choices, hero development, arms, armor, and other goodies. Don't waste my ROM on crappy unecessary graphics - why are we at this site for anyway - great old games- certainly wasn't the graphics

No, homm4 is special. Nothing wrong can be said about this game - devs went bankcrupt before they could make all what they wanted in homm 4.

But.. eador:motwbt should definately offer more than just make up. No innovation, i mean you can clearly imagine what this game is missing or what new game mode it should have..

examples.. each shard has something unique(might be weapon might be power/knowledge) After winning each world you build your pallace or armory where you place godliest items.

After some time you can jump in black hole where mobs are extremely difficult..and you plow them wth your godliest gear you got...

Another game mod would be gremlin gamble world.. You can put your imagination in there too..

So overall.. eador:remake sucks..
Oh come on, the devs never made it a secret that it's just a remake with a shorter campaign and some new features. You can't be disappointed for getting exactly what the developers said you would get.

Realise bigger picture.. Because eador remake has been Just released, that means it will be 5 more years will we get new story, new races, new game modes and much much more..
Apparently, this is not a remake, but a reboot.

I'm still very disappointed with this release...

Fine, but htat still doesn't change the fact that Snowbird delivered what they promised (rom a story perspective). Would you go watch Star Wars re-releases in 3D and complain that all you got was the same movie with a few changes and in 3D? I mean, why on earth would you expect anything different than what was advertised? Sure, it would have been nice to see a continuation rather than a remake, but this is what it is.

I suppose you are right...but at least you understood my point.. good games deserve more than just makeovers..

Can't argue with that :)
I contacted support but no answer yet. I really want a refund.
