It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I have a i7 X 980 @ 3.33 GHz, 12 GB of RAM, an nVidia GTX 570 with the latest 314.22 drivers, running Win 7 Pro. I purchased Genesis from GOG and I have attempted to get it to run on my box, but it will not. When the opening screen loads, the mouse gets 'sticky' and the sound stutters.

In perusing the forums, I see that some here are able to get the game to run without any tweaks. I was hoping to see if those who are using desktops are in fact using a PC similar to mine, or if the ones who are running it with no problems are using AMD processors/Raedon video cards.

I can run games like CIv 5, Borderlands 2, X-COM, Fallen Enchantress, etc with no problem, while other programs are open (even Firefox with YouTube videos on pause with its notorious memory leak) at 1920x1080 with 8X anti-aliasing, Anisotropic filtering at 16x, etc. In fact, I use the nVidia Geforce Experience app and all the games that I have that are listed in that app are maxxed out for visual effects, so I do not think it is a matter of my having enough 'horsepower' to run the game.

I know of the trick to throttle the CPU by manually creating a profile bringing the speed of the CPU down by 50%. I am hoping to leave that as the last resort. I have already contacted customer support and despite their helpfulness, they were unable to help me get the program running.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you have steam running, exit it completely (logout and quit).

There's a conflict between Genesis dll and Steam.

Thanks rahal. I have tried that in the past and while it did stop the stuttering, the game still crashed.
Ah wish I could be more help. My system is very similar to yours and I've never had a crash.

What worked for me was quitting steam + using only the edited cfg file from the launcher linked on this forum.

If you can't find it:

I suggest to enable Lake ships - AI have this enabled by default. This setting lets you build shipyard near small water tiles (1-3 hexes).
I have an Intel i7 X 920 @ 2.67GHz , 16GB RAM and an nVidia GTX 260 card with the latest drivers running Win 7 Pro and I've not had a single problem with running the game from day 1, so I'm pretty sure it's not related to Intel/AMD/nVidia. Strange that a system that close to yours have so different results, which makes me suspect installed software differences.

My processor is a bit slower as is my Gfx card but it's identical families every one of them. You don't have some vendorware like I know eg. Asus like to ship with their graphics cards installed? Because that caused me endless problems with a lot of games before I uninstalled them long ago.

If you have Windows 7 Professional you can run Windows XP as a virtual machine directly; here's the link www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3702

I use an XP virtual machine for most older games (especially GOG ones) as XP is noticably more stable in performance
Thanks guys.

@rahal-Thanks. I will try your config later....hopefully it will help.

Thanks for the additional info Gremlion.

@Kazper-Thanks. I am kinda neurotic about keeping my PC free from bloatware (even though I do have some running). I use CCleaner everyday, as well as Glary Utilities. I use MSE and MalwareBytes as my antivirus software everyday as well. It could be a software conflict causing this. If it is, I would think it is a puzzle that would be too complex for me to solve. :).

@AverageBear-Thanks. Your suggestion was given to me by GOG support (I actually tried it before they suggested it) and unfortunately it did not work.
I use slightly modified launcher settings. Also process set to high priority. And not only steam conflicts with eador. For example when i have opera running in the background there is significant sound stuttering. There may be other programs, which screw this game.

Throttle the CPU. Takes about 2 seconds and works 100%.

I created shortcuts to two power profiles (one balanced, one limiting CPU to 50%) and put them on my desktop. Double click the Eador one before playing, then double click the normal one after. Stupid easy.
How do you create shortcuts for powerprofiles? Im lazy so I just let my 2500k run on 70% for the past half year for Eador, didnt notice any difference outside of the game anyway.

Flagyl you could also set the graphics to 16bit in the eador.cfg, I did that, too, its made the game flawless.

Hearing the news the MotBW probably won't be running smoothly on 4/19, I went ahead and tried the throttling solution. While inelegant, it did work (I tried a test where I started the game at 50% CPU speed and then once the game was running, went back to 100% speed-it began to pop and the mouse lagged).

I'm jealous of those of you who can run it without changing your system :).

In edit-thanks again everyone.

And they are jealous of you because you have a faster CPU! :D

Yet thankfully it is a very easy solution around the problem. Since I haven't owned a desktop since before 2000 I'm not sure how much this differs, but on my laptop that power option is a mere two clicks away through the task bar icon - I created a simple alternative power plan just for this game.

@jamotide...I followed the advice of Das24680, as seen here-
