francalibur: I'm interested in this. How do you change the GalaxyID to a SteamID?

Use this tool to unpack your saves to XML. You'll need a Steam and GOG version of the save. Then just go to the last line and copy that ID line from your Steam save over to the GOG one.
Thank you for the great tip. I got more information on how to do this from reddit. I'll attempt this once I have the chance.

Just wanted to mention that I checked my save out and there is a lot of data there included the pawns you have with you and the history of pawns you have hired. They all have a unique ID associated to the one who made them for the user made ones.

I tired it in reverse going from Steam to GoG while offline and it worked, my character was back and decked out in full BBI gear but the hired user made pawns were with me also. In the status page it even gives the creator's name and class. So if you load your GoG save in steam your pawn rental history and any pawns you have hired will probably be invalid users. Not sure what that might do to the system or your save after you visit a rift stone

Thank you. From reading your comment, I might end up just keeping both versions. The bugs on GOG have made me paranoid about doing anything that might mess up the game on Steam.

This way, once GOG team fixes the issues on this version, I already have a high level character that I can use without having to start all over. I've progressed enough on a new character on Steam to not want to transfer anymore. Besides, other players on Steam have offered to gift my new character some nifty items that would make leveling again more bearable.
Is this bug ever getting fixed? I bought this with having this intended feature and if its not getting fixed its kinda shitty. Even though it might work if you sync up perfectly; thats not how its supposed to work. And an excuse like its a different platform doesn't make sense. That feature and design of the system is supposed to work a specific way and works like that on every other platform except this one. So, if its not getting fixed, someone should at least put on the page that this version of DDDA needs same time syncing to use the online pawn system. As it stands now, I regret not waiting for the steam sale to get DDDA, and even if I do buy it; I don't want to replay my entire character.

I'm pretty disappointed as well as it seems to be ignored to date. It's pretty much the core mechanic of the game and advertised heavily. If it doesn't work or being ignored that's a red flag with gog with future purchases IMO.
Tech support just contacted me and offered a refund, as they don't seem to be able to fix the issue.

I've spent 150 hours on this, so I won't be taking a refund (seriously, I got my share of fun for the 10 bucks the game cost me), but it's a rather disappointing turn of events. The game was more or less built around this feature, and releasing half-baked ports on GoG doesn't help the reputation of either GoG or Capcom here.

While GoG are hardly to blame, I feel that lately there's been a wave of shoddy dev behaviour. Patches are delayed or omitted, new features are only available on Steam builds, etc. pp.

If this shoddy behaviour isn't curbed, then I will have to reconsider buying stuff on GoG. Half-assed releases and no bug fixes shouldn't become the new standard around here.
Well, damn. Those are bad news. So this bug is not fixable. A statement of sorts would be nice indeed. I have put my playthrough on hold after putting 60 hours in the game (though only about ten into the most recent character) in the hopes that I could play a fixed version of the game at some point. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a refund either at this point. It's a bit disappointing though since every thread I dug up about the similar Steam issue suggested that it was quite easily fixable over there.

I think I will create a new character with all of this in mind and get ready for some serious grinding in BBI since the enemies there do drop Rift Crystals. I guess it can be a good things that mobs respawn frequently.
I've played it quite a bit myself with the hopes the core aspect in this game would be fixed and probably won't seek a refund. I will however be opening my steam library more often now and directing my purchases through them. Very disappointed.
I don't think this is going to be fixed. I asked for a refund and got one no questions asked and then bought the steam version for the same price while it's still on sale
It really is unfortunate as rentals are one of the best features of this game. I got it on Steam and the pawn rentals make a huge difference especially when it comes to much needed rift crystals. Like the others, I've put enough time into the game on GOG to make asking for a refund seem wrong.

I hope GOG puts more effort into fixing future bugs because this issue has ensured that all my future purchases will be on Steam.
Very disappointing. Won't be asking for a refund after over 100 hours and completing it twice, but I was looking forward to renting some friends pawn when they'd start playing and sending them some gifts. Looks like that's not going to happen.

As far as the rift crystal issue is concerned, I broke down a while ago and used cheat engine to give myself some. The BBI situation was quickly becoming unmanageable without that.

Guess DDDA ought to be added to the list of games that treat GOG users as second-class citizens. Online features are only half-working (if even) and it doesn't look like it's going to change.
I also went for a refund in the end, after picking Dragon's Dogma up on Steam and establishing that its pawn rental system was working just fine. To GOG's credit they didn't quibble over the refund and the money was back in my Paypal account within a matter of hours.

This episode has really put a dent in my confidence in GOG's support of games with significant online functionality. I am happy to continue buying offline games from them, but I will definitely think twice before buying another game with online features on GOG.

Anyone know if the "NewServer" beta channel that's appeared for the game in GOG Galaxy is something relating to this?

I asked on the FAQ thread a couple of days ago, but I don't think any information's been provided.

On a semi-related note, I filed a Galaxy bug report about connection failures when resting and people reporting that they can arise from having cloud saves disabled. There's conjecture that pawn synching is linked to the cloud save mechanism somehow.

VERY early into gameplay I had that problem, was told to enable Cloud Saving, did so and it went away.....except it still happens occasionally
