Let me know if you have any trouble (raze@larian.com). It is actually a pretty easy fix if you are comfortable hex editing.

The topics below contain a bit of info on the file structure of the character section of the data.000 file (which you don't actually need to know, but a bit of background might make the editing procedure easier to understand).

Teleporting Anywhere, via hex editor

I am going to try the Hex Editor fix tonight after work as I have been out of town.

Wish me good luck.

Well it worked. The Imps talked to me and the Council of Seven Quest continues.

It took me awhile to figure it out but after an hour and a half I got it done.

This fix didn't work for me.

First off HexEdit wouldn't let me open the data.000 file, it kept saying it was Read-Only and uneditable, though it was clearly not Read Only as the box was unchecked. Just to confirm that I could write to it, I switched over to Ubuntu (on my dual boot system) and ran a chown command on the file to remove any permissions. Still wouldn't open the file.

Next, I made a copy of the file, which would finally open. I modified it according to the instructions, but everytime I tried to load the file the game crashed.

I couldn't finish the game.
God dammit!!!

Another thing wrong???

I'm gonna play the whole damn game and can't finish it unless I use the hex editor (which I'm not gonna do)??? I guess I might as well stop playing now.

FUCK this is frustrating.

GOG, THIS STUFF SHOULD BE PUT ON THE GAMECARD WHEN PEOPLE ARE CONSIDERING PURCHASE.
Depending on Window's permissions and settings, and whether DD was installed to the default Program Files folder or elsewhere, Windows may not allow modifying save files. If you right click on the editor and select 'run as administrator' you probably shouldn't need to copy the file to a different location.

Either of you can zip the data.000 file from your latest save and email it to me (raze@larian.com) to fix.

Alternately (for the resistance bug), if the resistance is not too low, you can use iZakaroN's SaveEditor (or from Kiya's site, with description) to repeatedly learn Magic Barrier, save and then unlearn it, increasing your resistances by up to 25 at a time.
You could use DAD's item editor or the Divine Divinity Item Editor to give some equipment a large resistance bonus, but that would still leave your base resistance negative (which may continue to go negative, or just be a problem if you have your equipment removed or it breaks).

Raze,

Thank you for willing to do this. Unfortunately, as I didn't find a fix anywhere, I thought none existed, so I already uninstalled the game and my save files are gone now. It's too bad because it was a very good game up to that point. I'll just read online to see how it ends.
Damn Imps bug !! Seems like I'll have to hex edit too...

If you don't want to manually hex edit, see Jem's second post in the Steam discussion Imp Council Member for a program to so.

COOL !! That was even faster, it should be included in the "Bonus contents" !!

PitBrat: Okay, I REALLY found the fix for both imps-- Zaknadrix and Antx.
This fixes the problem with both imps acting hostile and refusing to talk.

For these directions, I'm using the '.' to represent an hex value of '00'

Open 'data.000' from the savegame folder in an hex editor.
Search for "Zanadrix"
there should be 3 occurrences of "Zanadrix"
skip the first one, and look for a string similar to this:
"Zanadrix59.....Zanadrix.K"
overwrite both Z's with the hex value 00 (basically clear both Z's)
the string will look like this:
".andadrix59......anadrix.K"
now go back to the top of the document and search for "Antx"
there are a lot of hits so keep searching until you find a string that looks like this:
"Antx47.....Antx.K"
overwrite both A's with the hex value 00 (basically clear both A's)
the string will look like this:
".ntx47......ntx.K"
save the file

Now when you load the save game, both imps are friendly and will speak.
The council of 7 quest is now fixed and completable.

Hopefully Larian Studios will release a new patch for this awesome game.
Oh, so many thanks figuring how to solve this bug!
Darn, in 2017 the Evil Imp Bug is still not fixed???
