PitBrat: Now when should we expect Divinity III ???
avatar
Stuff: Divinity II is the next release since Beyond Divinity was not considered to be 2 . . .=)

Divinity II: Ego Draconis was released on Jul 24, 2009
The expansion-- Divinity 2: Flames of Vengeance-- will hopefully make it to American shelves soon!
I still hope this franchise is popular enough that we are blessed with Divinity III!!!
Beyond Divinity II would be awesome as well. I really enjoyed BD's focus on party rather than solo play.
But, my real reason for bumping this post up is that I finally received some groovy swag from Larian Studios!
I informed them of the bug I encountered in Divinity and how to fix it. Lynn Vanbesien, the office manager for Larian Studios, is super kind. She sent me a Divinity II T-Shirt, mouse pad and the Divinity Universe soundtrack!!! Free goodies always make me smile!
I can't use enough exclamation points to convey my gratitude.
I'll definitely buy Flames of Vengeance as soon as it makes it to the U.S.
P.S.
In the picture, I'm the hairy one.

PitBrat: ..

Awesome ! . . . glad to hear Larian is still kickin . . . =)
Deathknight and other Larian devs were more than helpful in working out the bugs after the GOG DD release (and getting us V1.005A). Don't know of another publisher that has done anything to match. I find myself waiting on the DRM to be removed from DD2, can't wait . . or . . will wait . . . =)
Goodness, that evil imp fix worked wonders.

Many thanks indeed. :)
Blasted! I too encountered this incredibely annoying bug; the imp in the Ducal Inn is attacking me on sight and the only interaction I can have with him is to slay him, since I automatically attack!
In this thread one mentions a fix, but therefor I need a savegames folder, but I am unable to find it on my harddrive.
Where is it normally located? The only thing in my search result is "setup_divine_divinity", 1.727.402 kB.
Heeeeelp!

Should be located at C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Divine Divinity\savegames\ <save name>

If not I will have to find the thread that lists the path some systems move them to when you activate the "Run this program as an administrator" option in the game shortcut. Most of the time they are on the path above. . . =)

Thanks, Stuff, found it. Downloaded a free version of the hex editor. Will try to fiddle with it. I really hope I can finish the game, 'cause I spent a lot of time on it.

PitBrat: Okay, here is more info on how to fix the Evil Imps Bug in Divine Divinity.
This fix will prevent Zaknadrix and Antx from becoming hostile and attacking instead of speaking with the hero.

This time I'll attach pictures as requested.

A simple hex editor is required. I use the free version of Hex Edit found here:
http://www.hexedit.com/

For this explanation, I'm using the '.' to represent an hex value of '00'

In the Divine Divinity 'savegames' folder, locate a save just before confronting Zaknadrix.
Use Hex Edit to open the data.000 file
Search for the text 'Zanadrix' (notice there is no 'k' in the name)
Ignore the first match and look for the second and third matches which look like this:
ASCII = "Zanadrix59.....Zanadrix.K"
HEX = "5A 61 6E 61 64 72 69 78 35 39 00 09 00 00 00 5A 61 6E 61 64 72 69 78 00 4B"
Overwrite the hex value for both Z's with 00 so the string now looks like:
ASCII = ".anadrix59......anadrix.K"
HEX = "00 61 6E 61 64 72 69 78 35 39 00 09 00 00 00 00 61 6E 61 64 72 69 78 00 4B" Now go back to the top of the document and start another search for "Antx47"
Ignore the first match and look for the second and third matches which look like this:
ASCII = "Antx47.....Antx.K"
HEX = "41 6E 74 78 34 37 00 05 00 00 00 41 6E 74 78 00 4B"
Overwrite the hex value for both A's with 00 so the string now looks like:
ASCII = ".ntx47......ntx.K"
HEX = "00 6E 74 78 34 37 00 05 00 00 00 00 6E 74 78 00 4B"
Save the data.000 file
Run Divine Divinity, load the modified save and play!

Now both Zaknadrix and Antx are friendly and will speak to the hero allowing for the completion of the Council of 7 quest for the Imp.

Enjoy!

I did exactly as you described it, but it didn't work for me.
But I think the bugproblem manifests itself earlier in the game. I had a lot of savegames, approx 500, and I loaded one where I am in the council of 7 location. Zixzax, the Imp that stole the teleporter stones, also is a red, hostile dot on my minimap, but the game says that he is neutral/0. After I talk to him and receive the stones, I cannot talk to him anymore. I can melee attack him, but he doesn't get hurt. I cannot attack him with spells. Is this normal?
UrielDagda reported this problem earlier in this thread, but he couldn't attack Zixzax.
Perhaps there is a solution that deals with Zixzax as well, otherwise I won't be able to finish the game. :-(

It would seem that this particular bug turns ALL Imps hostile. I have not found a solution other than the one posted above and It doesn't seem to work in all cases.
Varialles,

Zixzax isn't that important once he gives you the stones. He doesn't have anything else to say.
You need to go back to the inn and talk to the Imp name Zaknadrix.
If you've already killed Zaknadrix, you'll need to revert to a save game where he is still alive.
Speak with him, and he'll send you off to solve the problem between the wasps and the bees.

If you're still stuck, send me your save game. I'll try and implement a fix and send it back to you.

I'm Streetspunk on Yahoo or you can find me on google.

Thanks, PitBrat, this worked for me, latest GOG.com version of the game. Glad I didn't have to restart the game, because who knows if any of my earlier saves would have had the same bug?
Awesome! I'm glad people still play this game.
I've also posted fixes for all the hostile NPC's I encountered. None of the others are game stoppers.
I'm still waiting patiently for the North American release of a boxed version of Divinity 2: Dragon Knight Saga.

PitBrat: WOW!!!!
I fixed the evil imp bug!

Is this an error in the GOG version of the game? Has anyone actually finished the GOG version???
I finished the GOG version without incident. I used quick save frequently. Other than insects, I didn't kill many animals but I probably killed a dog by accident as some dogs kept attacking me.

Didn't have a problem with the imp - I just took his magic ball as soon as he offered it. But I made sure not to approach him until I was finished doing the other stuff in the city I wanted to do.

PitBrat: I discovered another related bug.

The Dragon Patriarch becomes hostile after exiting the conversation and won't teach you the ghost spell.
Here is the fix to prevent the Dragon Patriarch from becoming hostile after exiting the conversation.

Open the data.000 file from the savegame folder in an hex editor.

Search for the text 'patriarch153"
Ignore the first match and look for the second one which looks like this:
ASCII = "Patriarch153.....Patriarch"
HEX = "50 61 74 72 69 61 72 63 68 31 35 33 00 0A 00 00 00 50 61 74 72 69 61 72 63 68"
Overwrite the hex value for the P's with 00 so the string now looks like:
ASCII = ".atriarch153......atriarch"
HEX = "00 61 74 72 69 61 72 63 68 31 35 33 00 0A 00 00 00 00 61 74 72 69 61 72 63 68"

Save the data.000 file

Now the Dragon Patriarch no longer becomes hostile upon exiting the conversation.
This was a show-stopper for me too, and the editing above fixed it. By Zandalor, I may actually finish this game.
Okay...I have the damn Imp bug. I will attempt the fix described here but I don't hold out much hope. Pretty crappy to get this far into a game and find yourself basically at a dead end.

GoG should note this on any page advertising the sale of the game as this could be a deal ender.
