BGLamb: Hey all.

Just got the game and am having the same problem described by the OP. I am running Windows 7, so I'm not sure if it's supported here. I get the severe discolouration which seems to be solved by the opening cinematic.

I tried using the mod listed above as a fix, but it crashed out when trying to launch the game with the Direct 3D graphics settings.

Any thoughts?

AvatarOfLight: Did you correctly install the DirectX components and framework mentioned on the site?
Will installing DirectX 9 components mess with the DerectX 11 already installed with WIn 7?

I'm having the same issue after installing the mod and I'm a little worried that installing DirectX 9 might mess something up.

No, fortunately they co-exist in peace :)
Heyyo,

Just wanted to add? This sounds stupid but.. you can also just launch the game, CTRL ALT DEL, and end the explorer.exe process. Fixes the color issue too. I've use this to also make Diablo 1 work flawlessly too.. so people craving an original dungeon crawl with that game? Yeah... explorer.exe is your enemy apparently. Try it with other games here on gog.com if you have color issues there too. Once done gaming? just CTRL ALT DEL, New process, explorer.exe and you can go back to using Windows again. This trick works for both Vista and 7. :P

[EDIT1]
Used Xfire to take that.. I'm working on adding support for DBTS to add to a future game update for Xfire. ;)

Hey just wanted to give you guys and gals a hand on the coloration problem with windows 7 and die by the sword this worked for me the first time. Here is a step by step to fix it for good.

right click your desktop and make a new text doc

open text doc and click save as

at the bottom select all files

type in the box windie.bat and click save

now you should have a windie.bat file on your desktop. right click it and select edit.

now put this text in the bat file and save

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
C:\"PROGRAM FILES"\"GOG.COM"\"DIE BY THE SWORD"\"DIE BY THE SWORD"\WINDIE.EXE"
start explorer.exe

note: This is assuming where you installed dbts. feel free to edit the text for your file mapping.

when done you should be able to put this in the dbts directory click it and the game will run fine. I made a short cut of the bat file to my desktop and changed the icon to the one used in the dbts .exe and its like it was meant that way, hope this helps!

I had the same problem!

Using the Xtended mod works beautifully!

Please read here for full details on how to fix the game:

I got the same problem in Windows 7, ending the "explorer.exe" in task manager clears up discolouration in every game that experiences it. Fallout 1, Die by the Sword, and others, etc.

This solution was already mentioned a few posts above, but this is how I've been solving it for every game that has it.

Thanks to pttoad for that useful information on how to create a bat file for this work around. I'll have to see if it works, it would make playing games with this discolouration easier to start.
I am glad I was able to help and YES this works on alot of dosbox 0.73 games and other windows games having this issue! If you are using dosbox 0.74 and above( when they finally finish 0.75) it will not be needed because they have already fixed this issue buuutt I am hoping that gog will update these games and continue to keep them running for us as long as they can. This is something steam has failed to do and I will never switch back! I love GOG!
Thanks for the help. I couldn't get the batch file trick to work, but if I manually ended explorer.exe from Task Manager, I was able to play the game with normal colors.

Afterwards, I just had to start a "new task" in task manager, run the CMD program, and retype explorer.exe to get my windows back.
Thx to all that contributed to this thread. I just had the same issue. Xtended mod works great!
I fixed this problem by right clicking the shortcut, went to properties then compatibility. I checked all 5 box's under settings, run this program in windows xp, service pack 2 and run as administrator. After that, click the apply button, then ok. Easy money. Enjoy the game. :)
