Just bought this at near full price which is rare for me b/c im poor, it just looked that good.
But im alr sitting here regretting it and wanting to use my first ever refund (new user) on this game b/c of the controls alone.
There is no remapping option and the control options are truly, without exegerating, awful.

You cant move camera/aim/shoot with the mouse.

Instead we need to use O and P to turn camera.
WASD or arrow keys to move around.
K or Shift to sprint and K to fast turn around which is very difficult to master.
L and K to shoot and reload.
J for grenade and flashlight.
Space to bring out ur gun which in my case ended being my go to to turn around b/c the other methods are worse.
X to change weap.
ESC dont exist, instead u go to menu on Enter. Then up and down normally but to confirm something or enter setting, its not Enter, but L ?!? And K to move bk?
There is option to change shooting theme from classic to modern which I didnt see any difference in?
Also very slow movement/turning around which is not an issue in itself its part of its charm, but combined with the rest it was so frustrating.

Im sry but this is completely unplayable like this!!

Love the look of it and was looking forward to it, and like I said I rarely buy games at these prices b/c im poor.
I regret not checking steam forums properly first b/c there are many comments on this issue there alr.
I will not be playing this and prob refunding it if posible, unless devs here can tell if we get remap options soon?
I can see on steam that this appear to be a promised feature since day 1/maybe even beta, but still hasnt been added in, in favor of other things instead.
There is a guide to use some keybinding addon and then add scripts to change it but yeah Im not doing that sry.
This should be normal built in option in any games today><

I truly dont understand ur choice of keybinds, no one in the right mind plays like this today ? :s
And I might not be a game dev but I know its not that hard to implement rebindable keys.

Hope to play ur game some day, I really do like the style and look of it, but im simply unable like this, its too big an issue in this game sry.

Ty for coming to GOG tho!
But pls add remapping options or at least use normal keys:)

Edit- Want to add that I did give it a decent attempt but after ~15 min I gave up ;(
More edit- corrected typo

This game has got controller support, try plugging in a controller, it should make things easier if the control scheme is the only issue.
Im on pc/mouse but ty:)
Its released for pc, so there is really no excuse for the keybinds they have here :s
I read some posts saying its not the best on controller either, but for sure its the worst ever on kb/mouse Ive ever seen ;(
Will give it another go in the future if they let us rebind this current mess.

Hello! Dev here, sorry about this! There was meant to be an update that went up right before launch that hugely improves keyboard controls, but it hasn't gone live yet. I should be able to get it up within the next hour.

Hello sir, I was about to copy paste my 'post mini review' from the launch thread on general forums here, but then I saw your message.

In it I talked about the rebind controls issue, but also mention graphics resolution option, citing how you guys seemed really approachable when I saw Under the Mayo reviews about your game a while ago.

Your game is amazing, but please, if possible, consider adding more graphical and controls options (if not 'rebindible', at least, more control schemes.)

Thank you very much!

The new update 1.0.2 is available via GOG Galaxy at the moment. Offline files should probably be available on Monday or so.

Ty for reply its always nice to see when dev's take the time to do that!
I did end up refunding it BUT if u say keybinds can be remapped now/soon or at least has some keys set that I can work with, then I will 100% buy it again next month and give it a second try, cause I really do love how it looks and that old 90s feel to it that it has!
Untill I can test it again myself, if other users can confirm keybinds can be changed and to what extend, post image of new binds, I will edit OP and add it in so ppl coming in can see its been updated now.

Hoping for this, and welcome to GOG:)

Crow Country

Updated to 1.0.2 (Galaxy & Offline Installer)

Changelog from SteamDB:
Crow Country turns One Year Old! Improved Keyboard Controls!

Hello everyone!

One year ago today, my brother Adam and I launched Crow Country here on Steam, and we were blown away by the response! We've been a 2-person company for nearly 13 years now, and have been making games together for over 20 years, but this has been our most successful year by far. So many people playing, sharing, streaming, recommending and reviewing the game, all around the world, has given us a huge boost of energy to take into our next games, so: thank you.

OK, on to the good stuff! One of the pieces of feedback we've received, here on Steam and elsewhere, is that the keyboard controls for Crow Country aren't as good as they could be. So I've been working to bring them up to the level of the gamepad controls (still our recommended way to play for now!).

That starts with a new default layout, which we've labelled CLASSIC in the settings. We took a good hard look at what other survival horror games do with their keyboard layouts, listened to comments about what's off about our old layout, and come up with something that I think should feel a lot better out of the box for new players.

Next we have a layout we've labelled MOUSE. This combines keyboard for movement/aiming and some actions, with mouse to rotate the camera, plus confirm/cancel and shoot/reload mapped to the mouse clicks (plus grenades on the wheel click, or E). Mouse support has been another requested feature, and this layout is similar to some of the Resident Evil HD layouts, so hopefully folks will find it useful.

Lastly, if you want, you can return to the old layout, now labelled ORIGINAL. Maybe you got really attached to it? Well, it's there for those who want it.

All three of these layouts can be selected in the Controls Settings menu from the title screen or pause menu. When using keyboard, you'll see the last two settings switch to keyboard-specific ones. You'll see we also added an option to use modern movement (rather than tank controls) on the keyboard - another requested feature.

One last (very minor) improvement is that if you have a controller plugged in, but start using the keyboard, you'll get keyboard controls shown. Previously controllers took priority over keyboard, now it just checks whatever you pressed last.

The requested keyboard feature we haven't finished yet is full key rebinding. With the way the game is built, it's a lot more work than we'd thought, but this update lays a lot of important groundwork to make things easier. I hope we can get it fully working soon!

A non-keyboard related update for this release - we've returned to compiling with mono rather than il2cpp. Thile il2cpp can result in slightly faster code execution, it doesn't have the mod and speedrunning tool support that mono does. So back we go! Sorry to the Crow Country speedrunning discord for having broken the autosplit for a while now, hopefully you can all enjoy running this up to date version at last.

That's it from me. Thanks again, until next time!

Hey Tom,
great to see you posting here.
Maybe you can help since I have another control related problem.
I am using a Logitech F310 gamepad (XBox 360 compatible - works with every game so far) and no matter what setup I chose A and B get mixed up. The UI and settings show me that I have to use A to shoot and B to reload but I have to use B to shoot and A to reload.

Edit: I just downgraded the game to version 1.0 and thar fixed the issue - so the new update seems to be the problem.
Edit2: The game got updated again to version 1.03 and I was told that the issue was fixed with this. Thank you.

They've already updated it on Steam to fix this specific issue.
There's also another issue with using SHIFT to run apparently, hope they manage to fix it soon, here also.

SFBTom: (...)
Hello once again Tom, I'd like to give you guys some ideas of maybe another control scheme for keyboard while you guys give us key mapping.

Here's what I use normally on keyboard, and it works as someone who mostly plays on keyboard:
In my mind I use these keys as if they were a controller:

WASD = Movement (Analogical or Directional inputs.)
IJKL = Actions (Face buttons Triangle, Square, X and Circle, or Y, X, A, B.)
QE and UO = Top buttons/Back buttons (R1, R2, L1, L2, Triggers, and so on.)
CVBN = Select/Start/Home, whatever.

The original control scheme you guys have created are weird for most, but, well, weirdly, they work for me because they're close enough to what Im used to.
The only problem is that O and P to rotate the camera makes it really hard to use the face buttons K and L.
Fingers don't really work that way. A better way to do what would be to put camera rotation on U and O, for the easy of use of fingers 2 and 4.

I did some research on how to apply key remapping on Unity games and I noticed it it can be quite troublesome, so I understand that you guys want to take your time with this. Another scheme like that above would make some of us even more grateful while we wait for the key remap feature.

Thanks anyway for hearing your community.

I just put a build live that fixes the running issue, let me know if anyone still encounters it after updating!

Thanks for the key map thoughts! It's funny, a lot of people shared that they didn't like the original layout, but very few actually said why, or suggested an alternative. Our problem is that both my brother Adam and I play games only on controller, never keyboard, so we're just a little unsure what makes a good map. So I appreciate the time you took to explain it thoughtfully! I think I could add that scheme fairly easily, so I'll take a look at getting it in the next minor update.

Thank you very much! :)
Just finished the game yesterday on hard difficulty, and droped my review here on GOG. (5/5 Star from me by the way!)

Congratulations to both of you and all the team.
You guys managed to create a really special game.

I would really like to know what the key mapping ended up becomming, b4 _I purchase it again, to know if Ill be able to play it without fumbling all over again? :)
PS I sincerely hope u didnt end up using directly, and only, what Keys suggested for keys, because ijkl is not a common kb mapping and it would def not work for me and I dare say most others, for action keys lol.
wasd and q and e yes ofc, but there are better options than the rest he suggested imo. Such as f and r for starters , not b and n ;D
Certainly not i j k l pls, that wouldnt rally fix anything for the majority of kb players.

Anyway each to his own but that wouldnt work super well for me either tho.
But ok anything is better than its current was:)

Can someone who has the game say what the current new keybinds is pls?
Ty:)

Hi Tom, just wanted to drop by here to let you know I made a video about your game's release here on GOG and commented about the new Mouse & Keyboard setup. Suffice it to say, I like it very much. Also offered some opinions on some future improvements to the controls followed up with a playthrough/review of the game. I'll leave a link to the video below if you'd like to check it out.
