This game runs just fine except for one big thing. It seems to be very laggy/sluggish, especially when boarding. It seems to be mostly my mouse that has problems and acts sluggish, but in the boarding/fight scenes the game drops in fps really bad. It is impossible to play like this. I am not good at these things, so I have just tried running in different compatibility modes, but that doesn't help. I have no idea how to fix it. Anyone else having the same problem or know what to do?

I have same problem too :(
I have exact same problem
I think the game always behave like that during boarding. When I first played Corsairs on old PC with Windows 98, it wasn't better. I still have the CD with original Corsairs (not Gold) from non-existent Polish magazine "Świat Gier Komputerowych", but that version doesn't work on Vista. Even if I try with various compatibility modes, it loads a mission with incorrect palette and crashes shortly after.

My recommendations (found in that magazine):
- if you want to board enemy ship or base, make sure that you will have at least 25 regular people during battle.
- do not go to the enemy side. Wait until enemy will come to your side. The CPU does not send all people at once.
- do not fight on bridges seperating sides, because this will result in a 1 vs 1 battle.
- when enemy wants to surrender, accept the offer.
- protect your officers and your Corsair. The latter one is "You" in the game. If he dies, it is Game Over.
I've had a similar problem.
The difference though is that as soon as I reach the main menu my mouse is nearly completely unresponsive and the game lags like hell.
I have tried tampering with the compatibility settings as well as the obvious 'Run as Administrator' but nothing seems to fix the issue.

What OS are you using? I find the game to work best when installed on C:\ drive. No subfolders of any kind. Just Corsairs Gold folder. Windows 95/98 compatibility also gives the best results as well as disabling visual themes, desktop composition and scaling. Game is still prone to crashing at times, but that is to be expected because this is one exceptionally finicky piece of software, even at the time when it came out.
Good to see it's not just me having this kind of problem. :P
However when I tried it on my laptop, it seemed to work just fine. Both my computers use Windows 7.. I will try installing directly in C:\ and see if it help on my desktop.
Guys, i think this mouse movement during boarding, is only,
because EACH AND EVERYONE of us are playing on WIDESCREEN tv's like me.

your supposed to play this on a real 4:3 Monitor.
that will solve all your problems..... if u can still find such a square monitor...

unfortunately mine went in the trash about 12 years ago....
I have tried all the solutions above. I am running on Windows Vista. The mouse movement and menu item selection on the main screen is SO SLOW I cannot even make it to gameplay. Suggestions?

Im using an Logitech G700s mouse, wich has some buttons on the mouse to 4 presets of mouse sentivities, this is very useful in most fps games when u want to change between fast mouse, or a slow mouse for more accurate aiming.

I use this method to have an faster mouse during the campaign map, and when an Boarding occurs, i instantly change my settings to the slowest mouse movement.

U dont need particulary this mouse, but u do need a mouse that has this ability.

Or maby its possible to make some sort of Macro so that u can bind these mouse senativity changes to different keys on your keyboard....

Hopefully this will be helpful !!!

P.S.

Or ( sarcasticly ) Maby All our Laser mouses are too FAST !!! and we need to find a mouse with a Ball in them !!!
That may help the others. My issue is that the game is SLOW. impossible to play it is so slow. the mouse speed is just a symptom of the problem. I had the same type of issue with games on an older laptop if my virus protection was running a scan while I was trying to play. I have no background applications running and the RAM and graphics card and more than enough to handle corsairs. What is the problem!?
Same problem here. The game works extremely slow. Menus are barely navigable with several seconds lag after clicking anything. When you get to the game it's a bit better but still laggy and unresponsive enough to be extremely frustrating make the game unplayable.
Same here for me , i tried with older pcs that are running W XP but still not working properly with compatibility package and these things , need a solution , and fast , =(
Hi all

I have the exact same problem as you with super lag - especially in the boarding fase. If I however switch to 640x480 solution the game runs perfectly fine - EXCEPT I can only use my mouse in 70% of the screen. Is there any way to play this game in windowed mode in a very low solution? I think that would solve the problem.
