Keihltrein: Thanks for giving us a workaround but may I ask something? this bug was fixed on the Steam version over a year ago, why is the GOG version encountering this issue?

ThomasRundisc: It seems the package was corrupted when or before it was put online.
So will you re-upload the package on GOG?

ThomasRundisc: It seems the package was corrupted when or before it was put online.
If you don't have access to the GOG build of the game to update it, you can ask Focus Entertainment to provide it to you using this simple procedure:

Thanks, Rundisc team. I was able to download your zip, unzip it, replace the existing d03 file, and it resolved the "permanent black screen" issue, enabling me to get past the tunnels.

Sorry to hear this didn't work for everyone. We really appreciate you continuing to work on this until everyone has a workable solution. Thanks!
