This happened me too with the retail version in my modern laptop. The only fix i found for this, are these two:

*Open a game that consume CPU resources (Crysis, Minecraft, etc.). The point is make the CPU work a bit hard. Then, minimize the game, open Blade, and play it. If you see that the speed is correct, minimize the game, and close the "CPU-eater game" that you have opened before.

*Download "Swords & More" mod. It's a mod that have lots of features, including an "speed adjuster". With this you'll be able to correct the roadrunner speed of the game with a couple of hotkeys. The problem of this mod is that it's "cheater", and makes the game easy unless you de-activate some options of this mod. Also, Mod Manager is required for make this working.

I would like to beg to GoG (without thanking them before the release of this masterpiece), that try to make a fix from the "Swords & More" mod that allows you modify the in-game speed for the people that we have this problem.

That's all. Thank you.

P.S: Sorry for my bad English.

Sure? I played your version and happened to me that :( Looks like i'm damned.

My computer is a Laptop. Windows 7 32 bits, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330, Intel Core 2 Duo T6670 2,2 Ghz, 4 GB RAM.

I don't know why it happens to me if it's fixed already :(

Tried one more time, it keeps running fast as roadrunner to me. I need to have a game opened to make it working at normal speed.

I don't understand it, really, and even less when this issue is fixed.

Maybe something related with laptops or something? I don't know.

I am sorry to hear you're having problems with our version of the game. Please write to our Support department and make sure to send in your DxDiag info along with the mail. Thanks :D.
You tried to run the game in the different graphics options you have? Maybe this can solve the issue, I had problems running the game with 3dfx emulator, i had several issues with Direct3D, but it works perfect on OpenGL

I tried to run the game with OpenGL and by default. The issue is the same, looks like it has something to do with the CPU...

Anyway, i'll try with Support. Hope they can help me :P

Gracias :D
I got this issue with the CD version too. I solved it by checking that softwares like Fraps were not running in the backgorund, and also by simply launching the game, exiting from the main menu, and immediately re-launching it (loading times will be shorter). It would always work for me, so you could try that too.

don't feel bad have the same issue, got it to run at a reasonable speed once(not sure what I did to pull it off) and that was it, it's unplayable on all graphical settings with 3dfx it's goes from normal speed to too fast to slow as molasses in the character select at random intervals then it's too fast in the actual game even with Vsync and such turn on, openGL I will admit I managed to get it to run at a normal speed only once, Direct3d runs normal but their are way to many graphical glitches in that mode.

Kinda disappointing this is the only other game I got here that I had any real issues with(the other is interstate '76) ah well guess it's going to sit on my "shelf" shame it looks like it was a pretty stellar game.

Edit: tried it a few more times before I uninstalled it seems that it will run, for me at least, at normal speed when it damn well feels like it, in this case 1 out of 50 attempts(I actually kept count) I didn't fiddle with anything just loaded the game try to play and exited, loaded it up again gave it a go and exit again, lather, rinse, repeat. So yeah I'm done screwing with this game.

only thing to do is message suppourt and send them a DXdiag or just give them your system info(there is a optional section for that) and let them know what is going on and that there is still a speed issue on some machines
Nevermind, it was something else but can't figure out what.

I read it is a problem with Radeon cards, but seems disgraciau dont got it...

You tried to run the game on win98/me compatibility mode?

I have this other option
http://mion.faireal.net/BES/
Or this other one
http://www.cpukiller.com/

I know this is not the best solution, but it´s a program that it´s supossed to "slow" processess giving work to the CPU, i didnt tried it. I just found it searching info for your problem.

I found a guy that talks about a proper configuration for the game before it was patched for the gog.com version, this is what he says:

"I found this bit tricky to get the game working. Right click the Severance shortcut on your desktop and select ‘ Properties ‘. Select ‘ Compatibility ‘ tab. Place a tick in the ‘ Run this program in compatibility mode for: ‘ Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5) ‘.
Next, run the program and in the ‘ Setup ‘ option, Video is set to ‘ rOpenGL ’, Audio is set to ‘ DirectSound 3D Software Emulation ‘. Next, hit the ‘ configure ‘ button, select ‘Full Screen’, ‘ 32 bpp ‘, ‘ 1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz ‘. In here, there are all sorts of play around options/ graphic plig-ins etc. within different tab options. I don’t know what the best settings are. I would be interested in anyone’s feedback on this. During game play, I have seen in very dark caves, the graphics is very grey and black, in tunnels, is sometimes very dark orange and red. Again, I welcome anyone’s thoughts on how to put this right. I am just thankful that this gem of a game works ok.

Well I'll give it a shot, hopefully it works better then similar solutions did for Hitman 1 and Interstate '76
