Can I play this with my 360 controller? Is the game frustrating to play with a mouse and keyboard?
This question / problem has been solved by Weclockimage
I'm also curious about this. Way back when some people on the Ubi forums insisted that their gamepads just worked with the game, but I could never get any of mine to work. So I'm wondering if they were just using xpadder or something to map it out (which obviously isn't ideal solution).
Anyway, hopefully someone knows.
I've been playing the retail version quite a bit with keyboard and mouse and don't find it frustrating, being able to use the mouse freely in menus could have been added, but it's not necessary. It certainly shows quite heavily that it is ported from console, but it doesn't hurt the game (much).
there is no default support for a gamepad, although through use of Xpadder you could jury rig it.
I just tried using my 360 gamepad with it, and I'm quite dissappointed actually.

Sucks, this was my plan for this game. Perhaps I shouldn't have purchased so quickly, considering this problem and the sync problems I've been reading about (im running vista 64 bit).
Oh well, won't know till I get home and try, I suppose.
I've played through the game several times with a keyboard and mouse with no problems at all.

This sucks. I would really like to play this again, but really prefer gamepad games to mouse and keyboard, for ergonomic reasons as much as anything else. Too much mouse gaming makes my wrist hurt.
I always found it rather odd considering that PoP has proper controller support, and it's done on the same engine, and released quite close together (I think). But hey, can't have it all I guess.

You could always try to use Joy2Key with a 360 controller. You assign the various controller inputs to different keyboard keys. So, within the game, you set up the keys as you want, and then match those keys in Joy2Key with the 360 buttons/analog stick. I've attached an image that will help you assign the buttons, should you decide to try this. (You can find Joy2Key via Google or your preferred search engine.)

Like I said, Xpadder is a viable alternative, only reason I don't user it is because it is a little confusing

here is an xpadder profile I have made for BG&E with the 360 controller. just run xpadder then open the controller profile by clicking the small controller icon on the left, then load the BG&E profile on the right. then run the game and you should be good to go!

I *think* it faithfully mimics the original xbox control scheme as best it can. only thing is you don't get analogue movement, the thumbstick is just mapped to WASD, but that can't be helped because of the game only supporting the keyboard.
oh and you must have the default keybindings in BG&E for it to work properly.
I was able to play up to the first save point with no dramas, controls felt fairly natural.

How's the camera movement in that profile? I always found that mapping mouse moving camera to right stick felt really odd when I played it. Though, that was ages ago.
it is as you say right thumbstick for mouselook, doesn't feel odd to me though.

This is great and you're not getting nearly enough credit for this. Absolutely fantastic!
thanks,
im now about 2.5 hours in and never had an issue with the controls. only tweak i've made since then is to increase the deadzone on the left thumbstick a little bit to stop jade moving by herself sometimes. (to do that click the spanner icon near the left thumbstick/WASD icons)
