Psst, i have an idea. I myself refunded the EE garbage to get rid of it, so i can stay with classics; but i was to receive gog store credit, because i tried them before. I have a possible solution, a proposition for you, if you may, that is going to piss Beamdog a great deal, i gather, he he...

If you want the originals, you know that Beamdog forces you to pay double price now and buy their EE, there is no other way. Remember gog's refund policy, guys and gals? You have to AVOID DOWNLOADING THE GAME! What if i told you, the old, original BG classic game, is NOT THE GAME, BUT THE E.X.T.R.A.! You buy the game, simply download ONE EXTRA, the OLD, CLASSIC game, then immediately DEMAND A REFUND, WITHOUT TOUCHING THE EE GAME AT ALL!

A mere proposition. Remember people, paying back some sleazy, lazy bastards with a dick move on the exact same greaseball level as theirs, is never bad, evil or nasty. Sometimes justice can only be done through a MIRROR MOVE! Enjoy.

Posting about this in GOG's own forums is a great way to get them to rethink allowing refunds in the first place. Bear in mind that something like this doesn't just dick over the developer, it dicks over GOG, who is under no obligation to let itself be fleeced by this kind of tactic.

Then perhaps it was time for GOG to make Beamdog or convince it for the originals to be sold independently, as they always had. Besides, currently, ORIGINALS ARE NOT THE GAME (sold here). So downloading them originals (they are extras, remember? Beamdog made them extras, lol...) still leaves the game itself open, eligible for refunding. You refund the EE garbage, actually, really. And as a cash refund, in most probability, too...

So in short, you are trying to get something for free that would ordinarily cost money. Got it, thanks for clearing that up.

This kind of behavior is the reason that companies start doing things like using DRM in the first place. Scamming a store that goes out of its way to avoid using DRM or otherwise make it difficult for people to get a refund or whatnot serves no purpose but to punish the store; the store gets screwed out of money despite people playing something they provided, and the store gets screwed when companies decide not to let their games and/or extras be released at that store.

Yeah...

This work-around *is* clever and stylish, but just a bit underhanded (maybe more than a bit). I'm in favor of going at this through more proper channels, such as voting on the Wishlist pages offered in this thread I'm linking:

https://www.gog.com/forum/baldurs_gate_series/info_on_possibly_getting_the_classics_unbundled

Hope I did that right...

Anyways, the moral of the story remains: Beamdog done goofed.

Huh... the link looks right, but when I hover over it or click it, it takes me right back to this thread. Let's see if it works for me: https://www.gog.com/forum/baldurs_gate_series/info_on_possibly_getting_the_classics_unbundled

Thanks for posting it! :)

Jonesy89:
This isn't quite what you and KiNgBrAdLeY7 were talking about, but GOG itself has proven that DRM leads to more piracy than DRM-free does. Now, imo, there's little difference between DRM and being forced to buy something you don't want (SecuROM's kind of like that) at twice the price. Now I'm not telling everyone to go pirate (I already own the classic, btw), but that *will* be a consequence of this. As with Samurai1138, I'm, of course, for trying to get these unbundled in a more legitimate way.

I do find KiNgBrAdLeY7's idea's interesting, though, and think it might send a strong message to Hasbro (Beamdog would never learn) and encourage GOG to let them know what's going on, too. The downside, if you can call it that, would be that that "message" might tell them to remove the classics altogether.

FROM POSSIBILITY TO CERTAINTY! IT WORKS!

Anyone who wants to repay the cretins who destroyed this classic masterpiece, can do this simple little trick! Now the poor souls who quit gog because of the whole BG fiasco, can proudly come back, and even SCAM Beamdog right back at their fugly, thieving, gaffot faces! Yarr!

There is the possibility that the games will get pulled, but I am also thinking of how other games/extras might get pulled, or possible never even released on GOG. There are a number of companies who insist on using DRM despite those studies you mention; that takes a whole hell of a lot of denial and dedication to the status quo. If they have a that a hard time letting stuff onto a DRM free store when everyone is being honest, I don't see any other likely response from them avoiding DRM free sites like the plague.

Hell, imagine if this had been happening when the rights to the Fallout series reverted to Bethesda; I shudder to think how low the odds of those games ever coming back would have been if this sort of thing was being openly posted about in GOG's forums back then.

So you are admitting this is a scam. Lovely. You do realize that this scam, to use your words, is going to screw GOG as well; that's not even getting into the potential long term fallout.

tl;dr: if anyone knows of a good moderator to link to this thread, please fire away.

This is definitely not the solution to having the original BG series unbundled. It will only screw GOG which will ultimately screw everybody. I believe the the best way to handle this is to do as another poster suggested and email Hasbro and let them know that we are not satisfied with the bundling of the original BG series, Beamdog's EE version and the piece of crap expansion. The more of us that do this the more likely Hasbro is likely to listen. The other thing I would suggest is boycotting Beamdog. Which should be no problem considering what they do is pure crap.

You know, if someone is going that far they might as well just pirate the original version of the games. You're not sending any sort of profound message, other than that people should exploit GOG's refund policy if the idea of badly written additional content in Baldur's Gate offends them so badly. There are better ways of expressing one's dissatisfaction with the whole bundling situation than this.

Find a blue text. Most of them can probably find someone appropriate.

Yeah, I'd have to agree (I wonder how this idea might also affect/change GOG's refund policy, too) - that's why I took the time to put together my long thread on legitimate ways to get the classics unbundled. I also understand the anger of a lot of people, though, and Beamdog's practically spitting in the face of anyone who disagrees with them - I don't think it's so much the content of the EEs anymore, but the attitude of Beamdog that's got people angry.

Perhaps... But i myself know all about Gaffots (known many), trust me, their real life behavior is always like that. You either SERVE them, or you are their No1 enemy. Poor things mumble incomprehensible words like equality, but in truth, for them, equality is always DOMINANCE of their own kind, on the EXPENSE of all others who are not exactly the same as them... I didn't get angry myself, i know all about Gaffots, known many, really. Like all disabled people, they need love and understanding, they cannot change mind or attitude. This, or giving them a taste of their own medicine, because SHOCK also works quite well in behavioral correcting.

ShadowWalker56: Gaffots are not the same as disabled people. I know because I am disabled.
Latest scientific research on DNA spirals, uncovered behind "gaffot" individuals, certain chromosome disorders and one newly discovered gene, which is altered than normal (this also enables to identify the baby's to be created in future "identity" while still in womb and allow the decision for abortion, should the parents want that). Since it is all about genetic disorder, they are most probably under the category "disabled". Disability has many forms, it can be physical, mental, or genetic oriented with various manifestations, which affect a variable range of normal functions, from bodily ones to behavioral ones, not the same to each and every individual under the same general category (disabled). As i said, since in most of the cases this cannot be addressed or changed, especially to disabilities of the genetic level and mental/behavioral category, no one should be angry at them, because besides them that cannot change by whatever you do or say, nothing else can change, either. Unless a miracle happens. Most people nowadays don't believe in those, anymore, though...
