Is there a fix for the BG 1 (Original, unmodded) version that allows it past the intro scenes?

Most times I click through the first three dev scenes, and the one with Neiztche quote causes an Auto-Kill on the program noting that : StackHash Add3 is the error causing it to terminate. If I let the movies play Then it gets up to the intro with Sarevok choking and dumping the knight over the towers edge to form the TSR logo... then crashes with the same error.

Details on the Stackhash thing list some Bif file for sound as being the issue in a subgroup of BGMain2.

Wanting to play the game I know and remember loving, but software errors aren't letting me past the intros.
Pls help.
Hardware details and copy/paste exact error message, please. Also your weidu.log contents if you have mods installed.

PC, win8, No mods, just vanilla. Hardware is more than sufficient to run it.

The StackHash error is Data Execution Prevention having issues with BGMain2.exe. You need to exclude the file from DEP.
How do I do that?

According to your error you are using Windows 8, so follow the instructions here. You need to set "Turn On DEP For All Programs Except Those I Select" and add BGMain2.exe as an exception.

Well. I did all of that exactly to the T. It doesn't single out Baldurs Gate Main 2 btw. The exceptions list simply declares the program as "Tales of the Sword Coast." after being selected.

The error still persists with the same fault code.

win 8 seems to be a never ending bane to my existence.

Another thing to try from looking around different forums is to see if you have any programs that use on-screen display (OSD) or change the rendering in Windows. Programs like MacType (font rendering), FRAPS (disable OSD of framerate may help), gdipp, d3dgear, and amBX are all examples of applications that could cause these kinds of issues.

Granted the forum I got this from is a subreddit for GTA V (which is very sensitive to all kinds of stuff), so it may or may not help here. Just something to check in to as it doesn't sound like DEP worked for you.

Flynn
Don't think I have any mod programs or other things that should clash. I don't then to pull up mods and such things.

The game runs fine on Win10x64 without having to list an executable as a DEP exception--indeed, that was one of the first things I noticed about Win10--that if anything it is more compatible with older games than 8.1 and that for many games in 8.1 that require a DEP exception to run, it isn't needed in Win10x64. (I'm currently on build 14352.)

Have you downloaded and installed DX9.0c from Microsoft--the June 2010 version? That's the final version of DX9 that Microsoft released and it installs side-by-side with DX10/11 in 8.1. No one who enjoys older games should fail to install it. D3d11 is supposed to be backwards-compatible with DX9 and earlier--but sometimes it doesn't work out like that. That's why I install the 9.0c runtime.

Thank you Microsoft/Windows advocate.
With that being said.
Please do not chime in on things to simply remark your love of Windows/ Microsoft.
As is common to the OS and it's hiccups - Neither of those fix the issue.

Baldurs Gate does not run Direct X, nor does it need Win 10.
Please keep your answers if they are not subject related.

Still looking to patch and run BG1: Original version.
You wont get much help here with that attitude. Few would try to help someone who returns insults.

Have you considered going back to win7?

It works well enough, and It's my final contribution to the coffers of microscum.
In case someone with a better attitude than the OP, but with a similar problem, should stumble upon this thread, I just want to say that waltc recommendation to install DX9.0c (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109) is a sound one.

Unfortunately The pc came with 8 on it. I may actually look up disks for win7, but by the time I get around to that I may need a new pc. This ones aged well, but it may be time to just grab another which I'm dreading given that if this came with 8... newer would probably mean 10, and 10's lovely cache of spying and hardware issues.

As to Engerek01, and Ergos.
#1 : Attitude isn't necessary, sure, but neither is a form of pushing product which is entirely unrelated or unwanted. Tit for tat. Push Win 10, and DX11+, and I'll be happy to say thank you and move along. I want neither obviously.

#2: Ergos ; You've missed the entire part about BG1 not needing any, I repeat, any, form of DX to run it. There is no need for Direct X, aka DX. None. The game does not use Direct X.
