I think the statement of Larian is fine. It's other websites that apparently have such big issues with ludicrous RPGs that it borders on prejudice and racism.

Larian just says "use the editor", play a Tiefling, not a white Human male. It's other websites that complain about the inherent evil-ness of RPG players who brazenly dare to play - themselves :o

Well I plan to play as the most vanilla character (i.e. white fighter) during early access . I am saving more interesting choices for the full release that is all .

Will the gamers have to apologise for their character choices? This will be novel, but fitting with the current trends in the society.

Larian was just making a joke. It's other websites that are trying to turn this into an ideological discussion.

What Larian did was take an *average* of all player character. And, surprise, the *average* turns out to be... average :O

I'm kidding - just amazed that this innocent comment from Larian has been turned into an issue where there is none. Like the reference to Vault Dweller - it actually does have resemblance :))

I play halfling most of time. or elf. seldom do I play human. I am playing a GITHYANKI in BG3 Rogue now. people need to grow the Freak up. Just cause your skin is dark, does not make you a different species. YOU ARE STILL HUMAN. sick and tired of all this Stupid shit. choose from what they provide edit it the way you want, and play. the developers do not, and should not have to cater to stupidity.

I am sick to the gut of all the excuses made for the developers comments.
It was innocent they declare, but I'm calling bullshit on that, I believe that their statement was red meat thrown to SJW gaming "press" and diversity partisans.

I believe that they threw their comments against the wall to see if they would stick and if there was significant backlash they would walk it back a bit. Cowardly.

Regardless, the Baldur's Gate games are huge boots to fill for Larian, BG hits high notes of interesting characters, gameplay and story telling that Larian will not be able to cover with modern graphics and AI alone.

Fondness and nostalia go hand in hand with the BG name and Larian has one shot to be heros or zeros to the people that love the games.

To be blunt, Larian should keep the socially retarded in their staff away from social media and bend all their will towards developing a masterwork game that lives up to the storied legacy of what preceded it, offer choices and options, but shut your diversity hole if your core players don't wish to use it.

I don't get the sense that Larian meant anything of the sort.

Rather, ISTM they put a lot into making so many other races - not skin-color races, but actually-a-different-species races like Tieflings and Gith - and are kind of disappointed not many people are using them.

I have twenty-six characters built on D&D Beyond right now - three in active play, six as pregens / examples for a one-shot I'm going to be running this coming weekend, and the rest as backup ideas.

There's one, one, actual whit male human (or, well, any sort of human) among them. Three others are white, and almost-human (two dwarves, and one adolescent Aasimar). Most are male - but there's three ladies, and one NB, mixed in there, as well.

.... well, we all know YOUR biases now, don't we?

Gale is squishy, though.

All the races aren't included yet, and you will just have to recreate them anyway, so why bother putting very much time into the character's appearance?
