Cool, i thought that i had it dubbed the right way. Im just asking because right now i am playing arx and i loving it. The only problem with that is that there are not many games like it that i would consider playing. Here's a few examples of problems i have: Gothic series-big click fest action/rpg with difficult controls. Morrowind-Boring click fest that takes weeks to finish and get across the map. Horrible leveling system as well and almost no roleplaying. Other rpgs-I have a problem with action rpgs because of immersion. Ill play them alot but never learn anything from it. I like roleplaying games that immerse you in the world and have a storyline that works almost like being inside of a book you are reading. The only other game that gives that here (that i havent played), is vampire the masquerade-redemption. I have to admit that i might be very picky when it comes to rpgs, but that can be a good thing sometimes.

Have you tried Betrayal at Krondor? It's available here on GOG, and its (less good) sequel Betrayal in Antara is included for free. I've only played the beginning of Betrayal at Krondor, back in the day, but I'll be getting to my GOG copy soon to play the rest of it. My memory is that it really feels a lot like being in a book. It was actually made in partnership with the author Raymond E. Feist, and takes place in the same world as many of his novels. The events of the game are considered canon to his world as well.

It's definitely an older game, with some fairly primitive 3D graphics in it, but the gameplay is really nice. It's done in chapters, with each chapter including a certain part of the world to explore with one general main goal, but within each chapter you can freely roam wherever you wish. You can try playing the lute at inns for money, do side quests, explore interesting places and lots of other cool stuff. Combat is turn-based on a separate screen with a grid, where you move characters around and have them attack or use magic. The characters are pre-made for you, but you can choose how they develop as you level them up.

That's my best suggestion for a good story-based RPG. I'm also a huge fan of Arcanum, and it actually has a pretty interesting plot, but the focus in that is less on story and more on character customization options and there being many different ways to play through the game, with things reacting differently depending on what you do. It also has some balance problems and difficulty spikes, but I felt it was worth it. You might check it out if that sounds interesting to you.

Ah, an arcanum fan. Almost never from them nowadays. I played arcanum 2 years ago and beat the game with a thief/fighter type character. All i used was a fine steel dagger and a few potions. Was a master in backstab, dodge, melee and prowl. It was too bad i couldnt backstab the last boss, that would have been cool.

As for the krondor games, the only one i downloaded was return to krondor a while back because it was real time. I usually can never get into turn based games because they take too much time if you screw up in combat. Return wasnt much better though as i lost interest early on. Like i said before i am very picky.

After i beat arx, i think i might go after vampire the masquerade: redemption. Although i hear the game is action oriented, they say the story is just incredible and much better than bloodlines.

deathknight1728: Cool, thank you both for the recommendations. The only problem is that i looked all over the site of gog and i cant find ultima's underworld. Will they be getting it on here soon. If arx is inspired by ultima's then i would like to see it on here eventually when i finish arx. I also saw a video on youtube for a game that is on here called stone keep. I read up about it and some people say it is good. Would i like that if i like arx or is it not the same?

And in case this hasnt been said before-thank you gog, you rock!

Petrell: Unfortunately changes of seeing Ultima Underworlds at GOG or anywhere else are rather small due to them being owned by Electronic Arts (EA). EA is the hardest publisher to deal with, likes to hoard and sit on it's massive pile of acumulated IP and seem to have no interested in exloiting it's massive (they own more games alone than there are now on GOG. several times the number I believe actually) back catalog.
Well, we once told the exact same thing about Activision and just look at this morning news. I'd say our chances are not only not that small, but their increasing too.

First ARCANUM is soo good, I and my friend playing it more or less 1 time / year, it so fun to dig up and it still fun.
We also love DEMISE, but that is hard, and we haven't finish it even after all this years, bu we still have it installed :) ( some day I make it )
I also have RtK, but I don't remember if I ever tried it... must test that !
My friend has "vampire the masquerade: redemption" and he love it, I guess I have to try that also now ;)
I think Gothic was a fun BIG and easy game, I fin 1+2 and 4 but newer 3, don't know why buy´d more games I think :)
I have STONE KEEP also, hmmm I think I need to check taht out now.

And after my Arx is stuck on "Ryzom" I guess I have loots of oter games to try out now ;)

Anyone know why Ark Fatalis is mentioned in Arkane's page but dark messiah isnt?
I would guess it has something to do with rights of the game. I assume Ubisoft has the rights of DM, since it has the rights of Might & Magic and Zenimax doesn't want Arkane to advertise game that belongs to a rival publisher.

Or they just forgot to add DM to their site, dunno.
Ah, glad to see some love here for Arcanum. It's simply on of the greatest RPG's of all time - though you wouldn't know it if you only checked on mainstream review sites.

On more hardcore RPG sites, it is very highly regarded - for instance, on the rpgcodex it is part of what they call the 'holy trinity' - they have rated Arcanum, Fallout 1 and Planescape Torment as the three greatest RPG's of all time, pretty much every year for the last 10 years.
I only just discovered my love for Arx Fatalis and didn't know about Dark Messiah yet but if it's anything like AF I'm definitely interested. Seeing that it's owned by Ubisoft, I assume the disc version has DRM? Since Ubisoft games are already part of GOG's catalogue, do you think there's a chance DM will appear on this site, too, one day (there already are a few games newer than 2005)?

You should take a look at the Thief series of games. They were done by Looking Glass studios (creators of Ultima Underworld). Many of those folks went on to work with Arkane on the Arx project. I doubt we'll see the Thief titles on GOG, but if you can find them, you should pick them up.

Unless I had several strokes I am not aware of, there was never an Arcanum 2 game. Ever. EVER.

mfarlow meant that 2 years ago he played and beat Arcanum.

Hope that makes things more clear ;)

One thing this makes me wonder is if Bethesda will renew the license for Gog to host the game after it runs out? Better make a backup just in case!

Apparently Troika wanted to make a sequel called "Journey To the Center of Arcanum" but they weren't able to. I think that could have been really cool. Oh well.
