Well, since Arkane studios is now under Zenimax (the parent company), and there are links to GoG on the Arx Fatalis official site, I'll consider this unofficially the first (of many, hopefully) games from them that make it to GoG. Maybe the older iD games can follow, then the older TES games (one can dream ...).

Those links were there before Arkane was owned by Zenimax, so unfortunately this doesn't indicate anything. :(

As for the older TES games they already released the first two for free through their site, but Daggerfall is a pain to get set up in DOSBox without knowing exactly what to do. Unfortunately, just because a game is free doesn't mean GOG can get it on here.
I should have never underestimated this game. I cant believe it but this is without a doubt in mind one of my favorite roleplaying games. Thats very hard for me to say too since i am extremely picky. The survival that is there is awesome. The one and only problem there is with this is that there are no other games like this out there. Ive heard that this game is somehow related to the ultima series. That i dont understand because isnt ultima a mmorpg. Either way i am glad that someone made this game. Sure makes the winter easier to deal with.

This game is closely related to the Ultima Underworld spin-offs. They intended it to be Ultima Underworld III but couldn't secure the rights so ended up making their own universe.

The Ultima games were originally single player-only RPGs; Ultima Online came along much later, and since then there have been no more single player Ultima games.
Well no matter what Arx is a one of a kind. I am hoping to play dark messiah which is from the same guys once i beat arx. I really like arkane's games. They do a good job. I have vista and the game doesnt look like it requires a lot, though i could be wrong.

Umm...no, not quite. As Arkose pointed out, Arx was heavily influenced by Ultima Underworlds 1 & 2, and as good as Arx is - it is still not nearly as good as either of those games, which are timeless classics.

If you've never played them and you like Arx, you simply must give them a try.
And I love Arx loong time back, but now I cant get it to start :(
If you ppl cant help me, can you at least give me a hint on whats the problem is ?

( Just now I back playing tru "Diggles" ( Wiggles) while waiting for help to start Arx )

If you could give us your system specs, that would help greatly...

Did you try running the game as an administraor? And/or force fullscreen with your monitor's native resolution in the default_cfg.ini?

Cool, thank you both for the recommendations. The only problem is that i looked all over the site of gog and i cant find ultima's underworld. Will they be getting it on here soon. If arx is inspired by ultima's then i would like to see it on here eventually when i finish arx. I also saw a video on youtube for a game that is on here called stone keep. I read up about it and some people say it is good. Would i like that if i like arx or is it not the same?

And in case this hasnt been said before-thank you gog, you rock!

Unfortunately changes of seeing Ultima Underworlds at GOG or anywhere else are rather small due to them being owned by Electronic Arts (EA). EA is the hardest publisher to deal with, likes to hoard and sit on it's massive pile of acumulated IP and seem to have no interested in exloiting it's massive (they own more games alone than there are now on GOG. several times the number I believe actually) back catalog.
Well thats unfortunate. Still though Im sure it will eventually work out that ultima would get on here. In the mean time, is stone keep somewhat related to ultima. They have a lot of similarities and were close to from the same era.

I haven't played the Ultima Underworld games, but I'm pretty sure that Stonekeep is rather different. I have heard it bears more resemblance to things like Eye of the Beholder. The Ultima Underworld games (like Arx Fatalis) are fully 3D, whereas Stonekeep features movement on a "grid", where you move one square at a time, and can turn in 90 degree increments only. Also, Stonekeep is definitely not an "open world" type RPG where you can just go anywhere you want, it's much more of a linear adventure, and has quite limited character development, and the characters are all pre-made. That said, as a linear adventure-type game it's pretty fun. Just not the same kind of game as the Ultima Underworlds. Oh, and I should warn you that Stonekeep can also be pretty cheesy, but in a funny kind of way.

I might also point out that the Ultima Underworld games were themselves quite different from the straight-up Ultima games... The Ultima games were top-down, turn-based RPGs (the later ones might have been real-time, but they were definitely sitll top-down or isometric view) whereas the Ultima Underworld games were first-person 3D and real-time.
When you say limited character development, do you mean as in classes wise. Im pretty sure there are no classes. Even so, in one of the pictures there are skills like stealth and such and there are unique weapon choices. So its basically a mindless action/rpg with a few minor roleplaying skills thrown in like stealth and npcs. Speaking of that, what purpose does stealth skill serve? Im very into the arx fatalis/ultima way of how that works and rogue type characters and finesse fascinate me.

You are right, there are no classes, and skills are gained through practice. For example, for more sword skill, fight using swords a lot, or for more magic skill, cast a lot of spells. Stealth is gained by moving slowly, one square at a time, and will help keep you from getting mobbed by enemies who can hear your footsteps. The stealth system isn't very complex but can help in a few places.

I wouldn't say it's a mindless action/rpg either... it IS in real-time and combat can be a bit of a clickfest, but in many other ways it's kind of like an adventure game. There are many puzzles, some of them quite tough, and there are many secrets to find too. But in terms of the RPG elements, it's fairly simple. I would say that an RPG/adventure is the best way to describe it. Overall I though it was pretty fun, but not an instant classic or anything. It was surprisingly addictive for the most part, but started to drag a bit near the end, before getting interesting again right at the end.
