Anyone else running win 7? Arx install just fine, but will not start. The problem is almost identical to the thread entitled: "Q: Cannot start game", except I am already working with a fresh installation.
I have tried all available compatability modes as well as running as admin, and setting the affinity to just one core. I have renamed to logo.avi file as well as tried the indeo codec pack. I am running Win 7 on a Core2Duo machine with a nvidia 8800gtx with all updated drivers. Thanks ahead of time for your help.

I have had no problems whatsoever playing Arx to completion on Windows 7; I also have a Core 2 Duo but my video card is an ATI HD3850.
Are you running an official build--i.e. 7000 (beta), 7100 (RC), or 7600 (RTM)? Other builds aren't supported by Microsoft and can have some compatibility and performance issues.

Do you have it installed to program files by any chance? If so reinstall it to somewhere else like C:\Games\Arx fatalis or something.
I am running build 7100.
I tried installing it outside of Program Files, and the issue remains.
Are you using some fancy sound card maybe? If the game has sound options you can access before loading into the game from start menu or config you could try turning of EAX and any sound acceleration the game may have. Alternatively you could try disabling your sound card from device manager and seeing if the game will run using your onboard sound card.
I have a Soundblaster Audigy. After disabling it the game fired right up! It took me awhile to find creative drivers that would even work. I suppose I'll have to wait for a more mature driver release. Thanks for your help!

Happy to see that got it working, enjoy the game.
Spoke too soon. The on-board sound has the same problem. The games not much fun with no sound. Any other ideas?

Dumb question, but are you using the onboard sound's official 7 drivers (or Vista drivers if no 7 drivers exist) rather than the compatibility ones from Windows Update?
im having the same problem windows 7 nvidia 9800 game simply crashes during the intro
Yeah I have a nvidia GTS 240 on Win 7, and got window with this strange message:

No primary

Switching to software rasterizer

..... and then the game crashes on the intro.

This is misleading as further down the thread it states that the prob. wasn't solved...

Its the thread starter that marks a post as a solution. He marked it after he thought it was fixed and unfortunatly there is no way to unmark a post as solved after doing so. Only the GOG staff might beable to do such a thing.

Are you having a similar problem to the OP?

I am indeed. I have an Alienware 11xR2 w/Intel core I5, 4 gig RAM, NVidia GeForce GT 335M, Windows 7 64-bit. Really frustrated cause I really want to play this...tried all of the compatability fixes, nothing seems to make any difference...
