Hi,
I left from the Island of Despair quite quickly when I got the info where to find the wheel clan. I didn't fetch the spectacles I need to find the entrance though. Bad luck I just learned afterwards that I can't go back.
Well, in another forum I read that's not a big issue. ' Raymond's Fine Spectacles' is the splace to go and just ask him to create one.
<snip>
23 - Raymond's Fine Spectacles

If you didn't get a pair of Wheel Clan spectacles from Thorvald on the Isle of Despair, you can get Raymond Pierce to make them in his shop. Just ask him what sorts of wares he carries, and then ask him to make you some custom spectacles. He'll charge you 1000 gold and also require a kathorn crystal.
<snap>
Unfortunately the mentioned dialog option does not appear, so I can't ask him to create the custom spectacles for me.
I am a pure blood magician ... and an evil one I might add ... something like a deatheater ;-)
I put on a nice smoking jacket to improve the reaction of people towards my magician, but it doesn't help, I just don't get the dialog option.

Is there anything I can try/do to get entrace to the wheel clan or to get Raymond to create the spectacles for me?

If no, I think I am stuck and can restart, right?

Best regards,
Lutz

IIRC you need two crystals of Khathorn to be able to make the spectacles.
Until you have that I don't think you'll be able to get the conversation option to make the special glasses.

You should be able to find enough of those crystals in wild areas provided you haven't found and sold them already.

Good idea, I just had one but for two lenses one might need two of those.
Just fechted a second one and checked aaaaannnnd no. (Damn it).
Might it be possible that a schematics is also involved? I don't have any schematic for such spectacles in my inventory but I think I saw some once. But might have been some other spectacles as well.
Oh I wish my magician can be much more powerful and just desintegrate the whole mountainrange with its hidden entraces, just leaving these silly dwarves out in the bright sunshine ... but I guess that's not an option :-).

BR,
Lutz
There's a schematic if you try to make it yourself, can't remember where in the dwarf's room, but there's also a lens and spectacles crafter in Ashbury. You have to ask him about his services before you can ask him to make you special specs, though.
You said you were big on magic. If you can teleport I found even though you can't get a ship back to the Isle, you can indeed use your powers of teleportation to get back it would seem. So, you could teleport back and just steal those glasses from the dwarf who runs the prison.

Indeed, I do have a magic-only character. So building the specatles myself is unfortunaltely not possible. I was thinking that Raymond maybe needs these.
About teleportation I thought I read somehwere that even this is not possible anymore. You are sure its possible? Nevrtheless I will try it . I wanted to have the teleportaion spell anyway.

Cheers

Finally I learned teleport. Unfortunately the teleportation to the Island of Deaspair is blocked, so the game tells me.

I'll gonna try some final things, like getting my Charisma up, and hope that something will let the dialogoption to appear or let me go back to the island of despair.
What about persuation? Is there a drink which makes me temporarily a master of persuation so I can convince the captain to sail me back to the island?
Any further proposal is higly appreciated.

Are you sure about this? I think that since the spectacles are needed for the main plot, it might be possible to build them even as a mage. You can use tech manuals bought in Tarant to boost your tech skills if necessary, but I wouldn't be surprised if building the spectacles essentially requires "zero" tech skill.

EDIT: How high is your character's Intelligence? Maybe the conversation option with Raymond Pierce only appears if you are smart enough. If so, try using some Intelligence potions before talking to him.

You couldn't go to the Isle? Strange, I could swear I did it once. Maybe it has to do with the patches you have installed. What version are you using? The original game, the game with official patches, unofficial patches, etc.?

I do have the official patch 1.0.7.4 + the unofficial patch + a hires-patch.

Btw. I found the thread again, explaining the problem.

Nope, you can't go back to the Isle of Despair. If you've obtained the Wheel Clan location from Thorvald and left the Isle with Edward Teach on his boat back to Ashbury, you won't be able to go back there already. And about the ship, you can't steer to the island using it also (although it's theoretically possible in real life to sail back to the island if you have your very own ship, but the game just wouldn't let you do so...)

And as a side note about the Teleport spell, you also can't cast it to teleport yourself back there as you'll be blocked by the island's technological inclination. (The technological inclination is caused by the crashing of a Vendigrothian submarine on the coast of Shades Beach, there's a story about its sinking in one of the old Vedigroth newspaper).
<snap>
Maybe you didn't know about the location of the wheel clan when you left. I sounds as if in that case it is indeed possible to return.
Still I hope the solution is just yet unknown and I just still have to find it. The game seems to be quite complex and open in the way of finding solutions to quests.

No, I am not sure about not being able to build the spectacles. I just assumed that.
The problem is, I play Arcanum the 1st time an I chose magician from the start, so I am in the same way inexperienced in the technical arts as my avatar is. I do need the schematics, right? Do you know, if I can buy them somewhere? And the schematics tells me all the 'ingredients' I need? Maybe the two gems or not enought.

My character has an intelligence of 11. Two quite low stats are perception 6 and charisma 7. At least I will try to boost charisma. Maybe that enables the dialog option.
How thoroughly did you explore the glasses crafter's dialogue options? I was under the impression the only reason to make you go through him instead of taking other options was so that you could solve the quest with cash.

I would agree with this... definitely go back to Raymond Pierce and try every single dialog option. If you still don't see the option to have him make the glasses for you, drink an intelligence potion and then talk to him again.

Anyway, to answer your other questions about schematics; yes, you need a schematic to build the glasses yourself. I forget where you get it but I think it's given to you on the Isle of Despair. If you didn't get it, then you should be able to convince Raymond to make them for you instead.

Hey all,
thanks a lot for all the support you gave, but I really think I screwed it.
Since I played this mage and space in the inventory in precious, it is quite likely that I either sold the schematics or threw it away on the Island. As I said in an earlier post, I think I saw the schematics...
I think I restart with a dwarf and won't go into one of the extremes. The technical side of the game seems to me very interesting. :-)
Again, thanks a lot to you all for trying to help.

Cheers,
Lutz
I don't think I ever had the schematics when I got Raymond Pearce to make the spectacles.
I would really like to know if you ever tried speaking with him. He's in Ashbury.
