MackieStingray: I don't think I ever had the schematics when I got Raymond Pearce to make the spectacles.
I would really like to know if you ever tried speaking with him. He's in Ashbury.
I did several times. Trying with a nice suite ... trying with intelligence potion ...
no change. When I ask him what kind of wares he's offering, I get the attached dialog.
As I understood from another thread, this should be the dialog-path where the option, to ask Raymond to build the specatcles, should appear. Still, of course, I tried all options ... at least I am very confident I covered all.
For a yet unknown reason, it does not... Maybe I am too evil, maybe too elfish, maybe too magic ....

Yeah, seems like that should have worked! Must be a bug, really. I doubt I ever needed schematics at that stage.
Maybe I'll try to replicate that error some day. I'll have to see what brings it about. Anyway, sorry we weren't able to be more helpful!

sociosqu: Since I played this mage and space in the inventory in precious, it is quite likely that I either sold the schematics or threw it away on the Island. As I said in an earlier post, I think I saw the schematics...
Just so you know, if you are given some schematics, all you need to do is use them and they will disappear from your inventory and instead show up in your "schematics" section of the tech menus. So if someone gives you schematics they won't clog your inventory, although I understand if you prefer to sell them.

Might be worth a quick check with your current character to make sure you didn't actually learn the schematic. If I remember correctly you can build schematics by clicking the "gear" icon at the bottom right of the screen. There you can switch between "learned" and "found" schematics. The spectacles will be in the "found" category. Just a quick check to see if you've got it there.

I agree with MackieStingray that it seems the conversation with Pierce is bugged. Are you using the unofficial patch? If you end up starting a new game anyway it might be worth installing it as it fixes a lot of bugs. I don't think saves are compatible with the unpatched version though, so only do it if you're starting over.
And as a side note about the Teleport spell, you also can't cast it to teleport yourself back there as you'll be blocked by the island's technological inclination. (The technological inclination is caused by the crashing of a Vendigrothian submarine on the coast of Shades Beach, there's a story about its sinking in one of the old Vedigroth newspaper).
I think it's more a hole from bad game design, personally. Half-Ogre Island isn't technologically advanced, and neither is Thanatos, and you can't teleport to either. On the other hand, I had no problem teleporting around the Vendigroth Wastes, or out of the Vendigroth ruins.

Not that I'm belittling the designers. This game deserves a sequel. Or it would --- if there were anywhere else left to explore.
Thanks Elijah :D I just had EXCATLY the same problem: no schematics, no glasses.. then I went to Ashbury and talked to the guy. It was like the fouth Dialogue option! Thanks mate!
Sorry for the necro, but this thread pops up in the top of all my searches.. And if I ever need it again it will just be a hell of a lot easier to go with that.

I completed this game ages ago and is doing it again. At first I was happily relieved to see I remembered virtually nothing - until this..

I had the same issue.. I didn't get the glasses from Thorvald and I didn't get the schematic.. At first I didn't see Raymond Pierce giving me any choice, just apprentice, barter and bye-bye, but it was so easy to figure it out that I guess it must have been fixed in the patch. Dialogue is a bit convoloted as the "Magic Button" doesn't appear until you've rejected apprentice training..

1. I would like to receive apprentice training. (1)
2. I have changed my mind. (4)
3. What sort of wares do you carry here? (4)
4. Can you make some special spectacles for me, Mr. Pierce? (4)
5. I need a pair from Kathorn Crystal. (1)
6. That is acceptable. Here is the coin and the crystal. (1)

I went to Raymond, asked him to build the glasses. The inventory icon lights up, but I don't see the damn things in my inventory. What gives?
