for anyone having trouble with win 11.... the solution seems even simpler than the original post...

the vanilla GOG installer *does* work fine out of the box, but the trouble comes if you want to use the highrez patch

my procedure...

install GOG version
install UAP 2.0.2
run highrez _install.bat

at this point you will probably run into your problems... the default config of highrez with uap2.0.2 is wrong for 11

if you're system is like mine you're getting crash to desktop before you even hear audio

go into the config.ini file and change:

Renderer to 0
DoubleBuffer to 1
DDrawWrapper to 0

set resolution... even though highrez can theoretically go to 4k, its pretty useless at that rez... I recommend just running 1080p...

reinstall with _install.bat

thats it!

enjoy

*edit*

please note in my experience, the client seems to be allergic to importing certain save files into a new installation, even if they're on the same patch... and that crash can look a lot like a graphics compatibility crash...

I emptied out my Save directory and only imported a single save file to get mine to work... my guess is it hates the autosave file

Reducing the resolution from 1440p to 1080p solved all my problems. Thank you mate!
