Having only just acquired this accomplished game, dear readers, it behooves me to bring to the attention of whomsoever may find it useful and auspicious, the existence of the official manual (included in the GOG package), which is written with a clarity and jeux d'esprit rare to find, in these troubled times.
Seriously - the manual is the schizz. It pretty much answers everything you might need to know, particularly about the lore, the character build system and the combat system, in good detail, and it';s written in an entertaining steampunk/victorian style.
For example, it isn't immediately clear just when you look at the stat system, what the "realistic" rationale of it is, but when you see the table that divides them into "physical" and "cerebral", along the top and "power, "prowess", "resistance" and "appearance" down the side, it all makes a beautiful kind of sense.
*sigh* it reminds me of the days when all games would come with huge manuals that you'd curl up in a chair and devour with delicious anticipation before even touching the game. Kind of the equivalent of album covers in the old vinyl days.
