Xenonauts

Each strategy layer of this game has a lot of potential and a lot of ways to be played. Superb graphics, difficulty can be challenging - so if you are not XCOM experienced, better play normal difficulty. However, read the manual first, because some in game mechanics and controls are not too obvious at first. Another big problem is that it is buggy, but inconsistently so. it's not like everyone has one and the same bug and you can find easy solution in some forums. For example, in my instance right clicking on grenade crashes the game. In night missions the flares are the default equipment choice in the grenade slot, which means in night missions you can't use grenades at all. There is another problem to which I haven't found any solution: the workshop may be broken, but you don't see that during the first day. So you may waste two months campaign before realizing you cannot progress further, because you can't build new fighters or armor.

i prefer this over the current xcom 2. xenonauts feels closer to the original xcom from the 90s i'm waiting on xenonauts 2 full release

Xenonauts wants to be the direct spiritual successor to UFO: Enemy Unknown by remaking the original with some fidelity. In combat, soldiers move and shoot according to a system based on time units identical (?) to the original; so the combat is pretty much like you would expect, except there is a directional cover system implemented, oh, and suppression. Air combat is no longer 1v1 and now you can directly control your aircraft, a mini game that can become tedious with time, but a welcome change nevertheless. I prefer the art style of old X-Com, Xenonauts looks a bit ugly to me. I didn’t play this game a lot but from what I saw the game has its own take on a lot of little things. One thing that stood out and I liked is the introduction of shields. I think the game is OK but I wasn’t impressed with anything, and in the end I just didn’t find it exciting to play. The game's font seems hard-coded to be tiny. Whether you run it at a 4k resolution or the lowest, it stays tiny. As it stands, the game is unplayable on modern gaming screens. I'm giving it 3 stars cause I got it for free in the GOG giveaway, and because it's an indie game, so I don't want to kill its score. But really it deserves a 1. It's practically unplayable. What I suppose happened is that the clueless developer thought they oughta write their own game engine instead of using an existing one written by superior developers. And this is the result.

Just a good game like Ufo and X-Com. But: After a good long fight with many aliens you find out that there are so many more outside that this become very boring sometimes. Ironmode ist not an option at this moment. Why? Because you make the mistake to make it quickly and everybody dies. It makes fun but I look forward for Xenonauts 2 to make this better.
