2084: A Utopia shattered, social collapse and civil unrest reigns in Mega Primus.
Fiendish aliens terrorize the city. UFOs swarm through Dimensional Gateways. The city's under siege from an unknown enemy.
Your mission, as X-COM Commander, is to combat alien aggression and uncover their deadly intentions. But Beware! Alien infiltration into the city and its politics could see you under fire from criminal gangs, religious sects, and even the police!
Alien fleets fill the skies, creatures terrorize the city, chaos reigns... Welcome to the war, welcome to the Apocalypse.
Explosive third game from the highly successful and thrilling X-Com series, following X-COM: UFO Defense and X-COM: Terror from the Deep.
Battle alien invasion fleets over the city of Mega Primus in real-time.
Combat the alien infestation in real-time or turn-based tactical missions.
Research alien-based technology. Create newer and more destructive weaponry.
Destroy alien sympathizers and stem alien infiltration. Wage war on new worlds in the Alien Dimension.
Best game of the original x-com series and even holds it's ground against the newer xcom-games.
The controls are clunky, there is no handholding in the beginning and the art is horrible, but after you get over those, there is a heart of gold beating inside.
The choices feel meaningful, the research tree offers new and interesting things and the tactical combat actually needs some cautiousness. Tactical combat can be turn-based or real-time, which both offer their own advantages and disadvantages and you can choose the mode for each mission.

As a fan of the original X-Com's and the sequels I decided to give this a shot - tinkered with all the controls and completed one mission. The game feels like a downgrade from the original X-Com. The UI is less intuitive and ugly. Movement is clunky. The levels are very vertical but the game doesn't make a good job of switching between the different height levels. The path finding is a mess, especially when trying to move units as a whole squad. I don't like the 50's future sci-fi style with the rocket cars, but that is a matter of personal taste. The problem is that the graphics in general look like this game was released before X-Com. Animations, the aliens, everything looks worse than in the original, movement and shooting mechanics are janky and not as snappy as the original... while it does have some neat features such as being able to move people and cars around in the city, it doesn't make up for the other gameplay being less fluid and less attractive looking than the originals. I see how you can have fun playing this game, but you probably must have played it back in the day to appreciate it. I get too frustrated by the jankyness and find myself constantly thinking I'd prefer to play one of the originals or sequels instead.
I have not purchased the this on Gog but this was one my goto games way back when long hard fun game. You can save the game and terrorize the city for no reason whenever you crave that action (I do). Excellent Sci Fi world interesting lore. Nice to have a RTS Xcom game that you can pause.
