It works on Mac
Why there isn't Mac version out of the box? I'm able to run the Windows version in dosbox on Mac.

Thanks to the color palette, the aliens look more as if they escaped from a circus or maybe that they are made out of candy. The game is more or less on the same level with the previous games in the series, and is doing the same things almost in the same ways. This game is a butchered version of the game that it was supposed to be but it can still be fun for the fans. Pros: more of that X-COM goodness. Cons: super exploitable and unbalanced which makes it very easy, especially the second half; RTS mode is unusable for higher difficulties. Rating: the double rainbow of alien diversity. Recommendation: only if you are a hardcore fan of the series; wait for openapoc. http://pixelloot.com

Critical Review
This game has serious problems. The interface is complete garbage, to the point that you will see experienced players waste a soldier's turn because both movement and select are LM button. Every turn you will spend about 20 seconds watching civilians run around aimlessly. None of the quick keys are labeled in tool tips. How "Opportunity Fire" (Overwatch) works is horribly explained, even if you take the 20 or so pages to read in the manual. There is just huge barrier to entry for a game that, even judged by it's contemporaries, is unnecessarily obtuse. I play and enjoy Angband and understand the quick keys of Vim but the interface of this game is so poor it's hard to recommend to anyone who wasn't already in love with it from '97. Speaking of '97 just compare this game's interface of others of the same year FFVII, FF Tactics, Diablo, Imperialism, Worms 2 etc., etc., etc....

Good Game, but errors present
I have played Apocalypse before, but in my downloaded version of the game is an error. I could not raid buildings and also could not assign vehicle or soldiers to attack a new alien alert from the map window. In my previous version I could do this. Would be great if this bug could be fixed.
