GREAT GAME!

Well, I find 'X-Rebirth' to be my favorite in the series and haven't played 'X4-Foundations' or higher. I recommend for playing especially 'X-Rebirth' (especially for 'newbies'). I read another here does not like the 'highway' much in Rebirth, though, to which I also agree; but a small price to pay for the rest of the experience. And the docks may be a bit repetitious, but so were those with no characters in the previous series, these do also have characters in Rebirth. And for the price is a bargain: I appreciate the sales here, and am so glad I don't have to travel for miles or keep putting coins in a machine these days: THANKS GOG! Also, my pc is an HP SFF/Intel i5, Windows 10, with 16 GB RAM and a standard Nvidia GT710 graphics card, and everything runs fine.

Awful UI

I have been an avid fan of this series since X3. I skipped over this game when it was launched, then tried it during the free weekend for an hour and didn't buy it. Now, I finally I got around to it, and skipping it was definitely a good call. First of all, the linux port is broken. Not missing/deprecated packages, actually broken. I had to find a fix and edit a file with code to get it to not crash on startup. Second, the UI of X has never been its strong point, but this game takes it to another level, going out of its way to make it as annoying as possible for you to do basic functions. Where is the TARGET button? You know, targeting other ships? Really?? Other annoyances include playing Outrun in the highways, dodging other ships that spawn in front of you while you listen to an 8 second long looping wub wub. It definitely feels like Egosoft tried to make the game feel more immersive and I do appreciate them trying to do something new with the people and stations but they grow repetitive very quickly, even more so than X4 where the station bits were gutted. And that is its only real unique feature. It has nothing else to offer X4, X3AP, X3TC, or X3R even doesn't. This one is definitely a skip for me. It's playable but completely forgettable. Try a different game in the series instead.

Return of the Kha'ak

This DLC introduces a bit to the Teladi who were isolated after the jump gates were turned off, it's not a bad DLC anyway, but I recommend it to complement the X Rebirth more. Good DLC, I recommend it 100%, we see the emblematic Terracorp that has always been in X video games since they existed, I'm glad they're back and especially the central sector of Light. Finally I am glad to know that the Kha'ak survived after the attack in X3 Albion Prelude "(Final Fury)" and that they continue to exist in the X Universe, this race is well known and popular since X2 The Threat.

Falling short...

I got this game on sale at a quarter of its original price. With all DLC. I was ready for a new X- experience. It seemed good to begin with. Fairly good graphics. Ok music. A great vista when first introducing the ship. But it all stops here. The tutorials are badly designed. Badly presented overall. The GUI is Horrible. All these aniamtions when sitting down and standing up. BAD! The cockpit is VERY busy graphically. Enormous amounts of info not needed at all times. ALOT of background graphics which looks good but competes for attention and removes view from the game it self. These devs are good at space sims but they essentially knows nothing at all about interaction with users in a meaningful way. I next tried to use the highways which was like slipping on ice. Horrible system the way it is designed. I'm a huge fan of space games. Especially sandbox variants. But this game managed to kill any form of interest in a matter of minutes. I so wanted to like it. But it squarly falls into one of them "avoid at all cost" categories. All those who give it more than average (2.5 stars) is quite missguided I think. Not going to refund. Call it a donation hoping for the next X-game (please be ALOT better). But until then totally wasted money. Go watch youtubers play this game before buy. This is a very digital title. Either you like it and forgive it despite serious flaws OR you disslike it very quickly due to a horrible UI and mechanics. The only plus I can give is the fact that it seems stable and supports Linux nativly. Never, ever buy this game at full price!

Needs more credit

Enjoyed X3TC very much and was worried about this one due to so many negative reviews I had seen in general. After having played nearly 20 hours of this latest version of the game, I feel it needs to get more attention. It is awesome and deserves to be played by more people. If you don't learn the game, some of the criticism is deserved; stations can be repetitive, the smalltalk minigames seem annoying, highways seem stupid, you have to scan stations, etc. But if you have patience to learn how things work together, you'll find everything has some utility and this game is extremely deep and rewarding. After reading wikis and watching videos, I still have only scratched the surface. I can confirm the learning curve is deep and probably not for casual gamers. But if you like complex, open-world sims, this is worth the time. Highly recommend 9/10.
