Things OLD and NEW...
Wizordum is a pleasant surprise I'm enjoying very much: I do not generally buy 'retro' games; I already own all of the ones I want, and only if moved off dosbox or otherwise remade (not usually remastered) I play what I already have and suffer with emulation and virtual solutions for modern hardware. What drew me to this game is how it resembled the 'Catacombs' series of before Wolfenstein 3D and Doom's day. It also is original in this: does borrow from almost every game of the early nineties, but in it's own way: is a NEW game I like! The pixelated graphics are it's most retro element, that also usually do not interest me, but are well done (better than Catacombs especially), yet adds upgrade of weapons and magic and much better and larger maps than anyone could create back in the day. Finally, four stars rather than five is because of user-created content only being available to those who sign up for this. I likely will not, as a rule. Even I am 'tempted'. Lol: It's good to see Apogee is back, who I remember, and still play many of their games for years. And emberheart's no slouch if THEY continue their good Work! Kind of tough to recommend for only nostalgia or the modern crowd; but I enjoy it as it is, and is being regularly updated and supported by the developers: Great old AND new game! :-)
