As Kara, you are a warrior, caught at sea in a fierce storm, adrift from your tribe. Thrown from your boat, at the mercy of the turbulent waters, you are tossed on to the shores of the Forbidden Islands, a mysterious paradise.
With no boat, no food or tools, just the will and skill to survive, uncover this beautiful island’s rich resources. Craft tools and weapons to hunt and defend yourself against nature itself with its wild and fantastical creatures.
Whilst exploring further islands and the scattered ruins across their lands, secrets of the past and glimpses of the future are revealed. Unravel the mystery behind them all and you may find more than just your way home.
Uncover the Secrets Within
Embark on a personal journey and discover the history of the idyllic Forbidden Islands; each holding the key to a mystery and unexpected revelations.
Explore As Far As The Eye Can See
Head towards the horizon, advancing across the islands, each with their own diverse wildlife, landscapes and challenges to face.
Live Off The Land
Scavenge the islands’ untamed terrain for resources that you can use to craft a full range of tools and weapons to hunt wildlife and upgrade your boat. You must set sail when resources become scarce.
Build Your Perfect Seacraft
Your boat is your key companion on this journey, carefully craft your own custom sailing vessel to take on the treacherous waters, traversing from one island to the next. Design your boat to battle tempestuous winds, monstrous waves, and deadly sea creatures.
The camera tends to jerk around for no discernible reason. You can't fall or jump from any kind of height without taking fall damage, running and swimming drains stamina of which you have very little and in the case of swimming this can kill you, so don't expect any kind of fun exploration. Basic enemies take 20+ hits from your sling attack, every piece of ammo you have to individually collect, and of course your sling has durability that you can't see and brakes after only slinging about 10 rocks. And good luck hitting anything with it. The UI could also be better.
I don't know how bad the game was before these so called updates other reviews go on about but to me this game just plays terrible.
It's a good BotW like :
- great graphics
- good gameplay
- good replay
- interesting story
Just avoid the "survive" mode that coul lead quickly to rage quit :p
The story mode should be default
I was looking for a survival game with a sense of loneliness and adventure with crafting features, and an exploration experience. This game met all of these characteristics.
You can build your boat from raw materials, improve it over the time as you see fit, as long as you undestrand how not to waste materials in the first stages (later if you manage well you can even get more than you can use). At stage 4 my ship is also my moving base with two decks, three double armored, spiked hulls, with a magical figurehead shielding the ship from damage, a big sail, containers with many slots (use hanging bags over the chests that are very limited), 2 fires (one for the food and leather, the other for making pottery and metal).
My character also had a stamina and health improvement 2 times.
The boat moves like a real one, with or without the sail... and it's not easy to maneuver a boat in real life, so that part is realistic, but many people may find it bad, probably because they wish to have something different than a boat subjected to winds and waves. You're WINDBOUND after all!
I don't complain the fact that the stamina drops fast (you are constantly running, swimming, sailing, hunting... and the decaying time of the food I thing is right considering the simulated duration of the day).
For those who find the islands repetitive I think they didn't went too far. There are some repetitions but even some nice variations, and some secrets too...
The movement of the character is very fluid in running, swimming and climbing.
I've said that there were some flaws, and here they are:
- I want realism but I also want to play and have fun. There is no way that when I die I have to go back from the start. Leave it as a choice but not the only way to go.
- With sensibility level at zero I still have some difficulties in aiming.
- I think that the progression of the technology could be a little faster.
- You can't swap items in inventory.
Overall a good game, surely amendable!
Got this free from Epic. As others have said, the sailing is awesome and the rest not as good. Runs on potato and just uses 1.4 GB of disk space.
Some of the fun moments I had:
- big frog got stuck on a tree when it tried to jump attack me
- outrunning the shark that was trying to ram my ship
- in the sandworm mini boss fight, depleted all my health items and I know he's just few hits more before dead but so am I. But then he surfaced near my boat that has auto-attack and that did the final blow lol
Most frustrating moments:
- trying to find that one island to complete the "keys" of the level
- running out of thick grass, means I can't make fire, means I can't cook any healing items
- the sandworm miniboss that hits hard and I have a hard time evading
Glad I played through it. There is a lot to like here despite the tedium. Hope the devs build on this game's foundation.
