What Remains of Edith Finch is a collection of strange tales about a family in Washington state.
As Edith, you’ll explore the colossal Finch house, searching for stories as she explores her family history and tries to figure out why she's the last one in her family left alive. Each story you find lets you experience the life of a new family member on the day of their death, with stories ranging from the distant past to the present day.
The gameplay and tone of the stories are as varied as the Finches themselves. The only constants are that each is played from a first-person perspective and that each story ends with that family member's death.
Ultimately, it's a game about what it feels like to be humbled and astonished by the vast and unknowable world around us.
Created by Giant Sparrow, the team behind the first-person painting game The Unfinished Swan.

It's really a fine game with brilliant ideas. But. The different stories of the members of the Finch family are so implausible, sketchy or completely without logic that you feel mainly sadness.
i can't even compare it to any game i've played except maybe 'inside', which was pretty brutal, but with an excellent delivery. what an incredible game that was
it's good to get away from the shootemup games like skyrim and new vegas, and play something else
i haven't finished it, but want to, as soon as i get done with my homework, and deadlines
and i want to play skyrim, i haven't yet, probably after my yard work and housework
That's all this is. Released in 2017, I thought it would be something more, a lot more. It's very linear, depressing and a barely interactive story. As the player, you change nothing. No puzzles, no game play, nothing. It's just a series of unfortunate events that happen to a family.
The world is beautiful, but it's completely stagnant, non-interactive except when the story advances.
I've played games like his before and had a good time with the experiences. This wasn't one of them. Once you've read the description of this game you've gotten EVERYTHING from it that it has to offer.
In the story of these people's lives, there are so many unanswered questions. It concludes in frustration, sadness, a deep sense of how is it rated so well?
a very sad occurrence: gorgeous game, wonderful atmosphere (and a special mention for the house which makes an awesome setting) literally murdered by terrible storytelling.
in a game like this one it's a deal-breaker, but the fact is the writers have tried to force us to care about a complete and indigestible parade of characters by heaping drama upon tragedy upon pathos at all cost, including that of pacing, character development and coherence (not to mention poor, poor subtlety).
and the ending feels badly rushed.
depending on how offended you can get at being force-fed bad narrative it will even put you off the very beautiful visual work, which considering the amount of effort that must have gone into it is a damn shame.
this is a shining example of how bad a "walking simulator" can be, when ineptly written.
