Description
What Remains of Edith Finch is a collection of strange tales about a family in Washington state.

As Edith, you’ll explore the colossal Finch house, searching for stories as she explores her family history and tries to figure out why she's the last one in her family left alive. Each story you find lets you experience the life of a new family member on the day of their death, with stories ranging from the distant past to the present day.

The gameplay and tone of the stories are as varied as the Finches themselves. The only constants are that each is played from a first-person perspective and that each story ends with that family member's death.

Ultimately, it's a game about what it feels like to be humbled and astonished by the vast and unknowable world around us.

Created by Giant Sparrow, the team behind the first-person painting game The Unfinished Swan.

Pretty neat.

The story is really interesting, the setting is beautiful, the writing and voice acting are both a solid 10.

Good game, but not quite great

When researching this game before I bought it, I kept hearing that it was an "emotional" experience. As a result, in all honesty I may have built up my expectations too high for this game. While there definitely were emotional moments, I kept expecting to be brought to tears throughout the game, which never happened (there was one story that really got to me, but even then I never got teary-eyed). Instead, what I felt throughout the game was a sense of melancholy and sympathy for these characters - which to be fair, the game was REALLY good at conveying. I guess the game just never managed to personally connect with me: it was more like hearing a sad story being told to you second-hand. One thing that did get in the way of my suspension of disbelief - and therefore might've affected my emotional investment in the game - was that I never believed this house could be a real place. It felt more like a funhouse that was very obviously built to be a video game environment (unlike a game such as Gone Home, for example, which to me seemed much more believable as a real house that people would live in). Still, I support developers like these who try to do something different from your standard shooty video game.

More than walking with narration

It is a creative game, but it will not let you be creative. I think that's okey as long as it fuels your own creativity.

Amazing story of a doomed family

I was deeply moved by the different stories. What a family it is! Scenes are really well composed and soundtracks are beautiful.

What remains of Edith Finch

Simply breathtaking. This game answers the question on whether or not games are art. At some point you will probably cry, as all elements are brought in such a delicate way that even the most stoic person will find something that touches them. I played this months ago and from time to time I still find myself still thinking about it. Not much "action" in this title, if that's what you're looking for, you'll find it elsewhere, but if you're looking for a wonderful story, told in a unique way, then get this title. I will say it is a little short, clocking in at about 2-4 hrs of gameplay, with not much except the wonderful story to draw you back to playing it again. Worth a purchase.
