a nice game in the genre of fallout 1/2. The directors cut takes the original game and adds in a ton of new eatures including easier skill checks, quirks and perks to add more benefits to lesser used weapons and builds.
The original Wastelands 2 is a good game with some serious flaws, such as any weapons other than sniper rifles/assault rifles being weak and useless. Also the character build ability won't let you make a jack of all trades character to solo stuff, you'll need a party of characters and skills to progress. Sadly one problem with the DC is that while adding in tons of content, it does make the game easier than the regular version due to increased character benefits (quirks and perks). It also tries to make non rifles more useful, but it still doesn't address the weakness and uselessness of heavy weapons, energy weapons, etc. They are stronger, but still not up to par with the rifles.
So you'll enjoy the game if you like fallout 1/2 type games, shadowrun, and similar games.
It's fun to begin with but the 'open world' aspect was totally linear imo.
Character builds are good, like the original but.....
I don't like being railroaded and I ran out of places to go.
I know the game tries to be "old school". But it is emphasizing on "trying" because despite how, the basic gameplay mechanic is decent, your first two quest entails going back and forth with extreme backtracking that might be frustrating for many. And no the world wouldn't open up without doing those two lengthy (originally you can only choose one of them but you can mod it) sidequests pertaining Ag Center and Highpool (Highpool in particular involve a long walk whenever you want to go to the village on top of the dam).
Two points for "at least the gameplay pertaining combat and customization is good"
A simple point and click interface for town exploration and more straightforward beginning would be nice. Move on to Wasteland 3, otherwise i mark this three because there is feedback.
Fallout 2 lite; its a good game, but it is not quest-friendly at all. Sorting out quests is really tough; if you don't keep written notes finding the quest-giver after solving a quest is hard, and many of the quests have really obscure solutions.
I was looking forward to playing this, but it will not run natively in Linux. Can't play the game. Can't have fun. Saw in the forums that it was acknowledged that the game cannot work in Linux. Why is it still listed as a Linux-compatible game? Remove the little penguin icon!
