The devs took the flawed gem of WBC2, which was a very good game for its time, and increased the flaws whilst throwing away the gem. The new races look stupid and contrived - well, I guess the lizard men are half ok and half stupid, which is more than can be said for insects and plague men -; the hero system is dumbed down to the point of being a joke; the new interface is ugly and clashes with the fairytale-like appearance of the rest of the game, including that of the evil races; the campaign is boring and bland and a chore to play through compared to that of WBC2, which, despite lacking a plot and being just a glorified game of Risk, was far more entertaining. Have I mentioned that, amongst the new units in this game, you have tyranosaurus and triceratops? Holy basement sales, Batman, very creativity and much wow! With the exception of the three new races, which, as I said, are either stupid or very stupid, this is just a slight graphic improvement over the content of WBC2, but more boring and bland. Get it on sale if you really feel like having a go at Lord of the Rings vs Jurassic Park.

I was looking for a decent RTS title to sink my teeth into, had watched gameplay footage and read through reviews. I missed on WBC3 when it released, but having played it now, I can easily say it doesn't hold up. I think the 5 star reviews are either blinded by nostalgia or have been convinced by some random influencer to buy another game (and they're proud to admit they've acted like sheep, which is mind-boggling). First off, the pathfinding is awful. Units will get stuck on buildings, terrain, wander around aimlessly and otherwise not go to where you directed, requiring babysitting. This is even worse for large units. This problem could be solved by allowing your units to pass through each other, but nope! All units are solid, even to friendlies, making it a mess to direct and control. On top of that, units don't often follow the 'attitude' settings you assign them. For example, I had a bevy of close combat units guarding my general (that is, set to 'Guardian' with the general as the target) as he converted enemy resources. They followed him around, but randomly decided to start attacking a nearby enemy tower, despite the general being nowhere near it or being struck by it. There are no formation options either, so if you want to stick archers behind a unit of spearmen, too bad! They'll turn into a giant blob of useless unless, again, you babysit them to a destination. Coupled with the fact you can't generally just murderball to a win and this makes the game an exercise in tedium and frustration. There are positives. As I mentioned, you can't just murderball your way to a win - you have to consider unit capabilities and purpose - unless you've chosen the correct hero class and can just roflstomp everything on the map. The game offer a pause mode where you can issue commands in single-player, which is nice for folks who want a calmer experience. Graphics are fine for time and for now, though some units blend easily and can be hard to see. Overhyped.

It's not innovative, but it makes up for it by the volume and performing the tradition RTS experience.

Able to create hero and get to the world map but all the options to start the first mission will just be blank boxed with nothing to click to start it or the cursor will be at the top left of the world map with no icon on the island to even click. Check the net, its a common problem that many have but have only temporarily been able to fix by resetting campaign (did you manage to do a few missions before getting this bug? Sucks to be you, just reset it and hope it works this time!) or uninstalling anti virus or messing around with computer bios. Never had this problem with any other game or had to resort to such solutions. Is it too much to ask that you pay for something and it actually works?
