Warhammer: Mark of Chaos - Gold Edition

So I remember playing this on xbox 360 when Battle March came out as a standalone (remember the good old days of having a "family computer"?) It has 1920x1080 resolution, all the graphics options are there. Basically, if you like RTS games, and you like Warhammer, I believe you will like this. Also, it has a bloody army painter. That's right, all you fans of Dawn of War! You can customise your units to your hearts content. Also, I'm nicking this from another review, as I'm running this on a laptop while I'm away from my main pc, and whenever I pressed play there would be a splash screen showing Sigmar's hammer, then it would just disappear and the GoG cloud would sync. If you have this issue, try this: 1. Open your NVIDIA Control Panel 2. Go to Manage 3D Settings 3. Set Preferred Graphics Processor to "High Performance NVIDIA Processor" 4. Click Apply 5. Give it a test Worked for me, and I couldn't be happier, so cheers.

Although I had a lot of nostalgia for this title, playing it again made me realise one thing. The game was nothing more than average, and I got bored of the game quickly even when I played this back in the day. While it's an interesting game and could be a spiritual successor to Shadow of the Horned Rat and Dark Omen, Mark of Chaos gets stale very quickly. It's basically an RTS with large untis and no base building, or point captures, and feels a lot like a Warcraft 3 where all the fun stuff has already been done for you, and all that's left is to right click around while occasionally using hero abilities to finish the levels. There's an attempt at a total war style strategy with flanking and morale, the systems are both flawed, while the actual fighting is more like Baldur's Gate than an RTS. You could be zoomed in on the action and not even see the health bars drop down for way too long, making battles drag on drastically. The best part of the game are the RPG elements, using gold and items gained from battles to upgrade, equip and buy new unit types, but again it's shallow. TLDR, the game is shallow, and while it's fun at first, you lose interest quickly. This game is definately from the era where every Warhammer game had the Mark of Mediocrity.

First of all I do not understand why so many people claim it doesn't work on Windows 10 when it works perfectly fine for me. Well maybe since 2020 something has been fixed. Introduction movies still are as awesome as I saw them years back. Graphics in battle looks old but it doesn't matter to me as the game is just as good. If you are one of those graphic matters type of people maybe you should try Total War with it's newer graphics instead. 5 stars for this one, it was one of the best strategy games I have played in early 2000. IIt really brings me back to my childhood days.

Had this on DVD for ages but it would not work on modern OS, so thank you GOG for bringing it back. This is actually my favourite Warhammer game (more so than Dawn of War or even Total War) with nice graphics, decent and not-too-complex gameplay, an immersive atmosphere, and an actual story to it. Of all the Warhammer games I've played this feels closest to its WRF origins. It has a similar feel to (for those who remember) Myth the Fallen Lords (hint hint, Gog) and quite possibly the best warhammer intro movie ever. Paying anything less that £10 is an absolute bargain for this game, and if you like WHF its a must have.

This was one of my first games and it was awesome. Very good gameplay, graphic is amazing. Campaign was perfection. I have one problem with GOG version. Game cannot launch. I`m launching, starter window show up and few seconds later its gone and i see that game synchronization on icloud is complete and thats it.
