Poor and dated gameplay; okay writing

The fighting, questing and character management of this game is simply dated, hostile, bugged and unfun. Some of it I assume is due to the use of rogue trader pen and paper rules (I don't know to what extent they were adapted, but clearly not enough, or not well enough). An on top of this poor animations, strange fade to black, choppy user experience, and the result is a struggle to get from next story development to the next. I cannot commend the lore accurate 3D modelling, because of its low quality and cartoonish style. It feels strangely gaudy and blurry, while also frying my 7800XTX, somehow. You don't have to apply raytracing, have hyper-realistic models and a enormous budget to look good. Just proper art direction. The first two generations of Dawn of War are a good example of combining a clean, cohesive, pleasing W40K 3D environment and models. Bugs are forgivable, though some will lock you out of important quests and force you to reload. (I lost 4hours, my bad for not noticing I was soft-locked). The roleplay and storytelling aspect is thankfully satisfactory and this game's only redeeming quality. W40K is known for its plethora of sloppy to trashy games, and I assume GW is a factor that tendency. But also, knowing the studio, I was kinda expecting this very dubious result.

Crashes every other loading screen

I think this game will be good when fixed, but it's in not playable in its current state and I cannot recommend. It will literally crash on every other loading screening, and I can't figure out a fix.

One day it will be a playable game

The story is good, game mechanics are clunky but ok-ish. Authors understand WH:40k lore/universe on a good level, it's grimdark, brutal, etc. But the game in its current state is barely playable - one time my save failed and became corrupted after a certain battle (i started a new game), now some quests are stuck (and it's a common issue) and it could be fixed only with mods. Overall, I can recommend this game (I gave it one more star in advance), but be ready for many bugs in skills, quests, etc. Especially in the late game (it looks like it was barely tested).

it´s a blast, but not for every one

At beginning im lost, confused and frustrated everthing is weird, never play Owlcat game befor, but after few hours i get it. How to lvl up and all basic and more and more time i spend in game more i like it. There is tons of option how to build character, huge amount of talents, skills, stats etc. and there is options completely reset charakter/companions on lvl when you first meet them. Story and other character/companions is interesting, many twists in story it self ( what first seem a good choise is not that good later i game and vice versa), it is superb or exellent ?! No but is very close. I finished game after 150hour ++ and i want more !!! :))) In this time i encounter one big bug ( completly missing one map or area but it is side activity later in game and don´t brake any progres or story line), few small bugs ( disappering floating % on hit in combat - save load fix this, maybe five time i see this) using abilities or skill don´t work ( only because im stupid and use ranged abilities when one of my character is in melee combat - this don´t work if you don´t have one of talents :p ) and i can´t progres in game because im blind and don´t see one NPC on lendge i can interact from below :)). AND in one fight later in game i have big lag issue, little patience and cup of hot tea fix this .). And nothing else no game breaking bugs or technical issue nothing. ..yes and some T pose NPC or standing corpses, but i can count that on my hands fingers. I definitively recommended this game for every one who love 40k univers and for others who like RPG and don´t know anything about 40k give it try on sale, maybe you have same blast i have. And for the rest who b*tching for everthing... it si hard, its soo bugy mess, bla bla, i have ultra mega pc and run like sh*t, ( i have almost 8years old rig and games run on max no problems, expect that one little up ). ..its not that and this go play, dont now, CoD or Starfield .)) Emperor protects!! .)

Immersive but bad combat and story

What this game does well is adherence to 40K lore and visuals. The atmosphere is fantastic, you really feel like you are a Rogue Trader in 40k environments. That is where the game stops doing things well. The story is incomprehsnible and disorganized, basically being a string of seemingly unrelated events that don't make sense until the last 5 minutes of the game, and even then only with a lot of squinting between the lines and deductions. It feels like the writers just said "wouldn't it be cool if this happened next" and then ran out of budget and desperately tried to tie everything together in the end. Its very much "and then" storytelling instead of "therefore". It relies a lot on exposition. Villains and plot threads get setup and then abandoned suddenly without explanation. The writing is likewise mostly insufferable as well. Its overly verbose most of the time, not quite as bad as Divinity Original Sin but still completely unrealistic in terms of how actual humans talk. There are also tech priests that constantly meander through paragraphs of bizzare, inpenetrable techonospeak, characters that speak in riddles, and other nonsense. Its basically "kid trying to sound smart by using lots of big words" kind of energy. That said, there were a few interesting companions but they hardly spoke enough for it to matter. The combat is easily the worst part. Everytime you level up, you have to tediously read dozens of options, most of which are garbage, a few are ok, and others are totally overpowered. Some talents give +4 to damage when enemies have thousands of health, while others let you stunlock entire armies. And they're also overly complicated too with quadratic formulas for calculating the stat effects. The progression is vertical, getting bigger and bigger numbers and not actually tactical with abilities that allow you to make interesting moment to moment decisions. Its all about optimizing your math to do silly amounts of damage. Very dissapointed.
