Works like a charm!

This game works perfectly. Ofcourse there is no wide screen resolution with this game. But you can pick a 4:3 resolution so you have black bars at the side of you screen. It plays perfectly that way, without any stretched textures. This package contains all the 3 other expansion packs. I read that many people are angry because there is no multiplayer functionality. I havent tested that yet, so i cant say. But if you love warhammer 40K, strategy, and old games, then this is a MUST buy! 5/5 i do recommend.

A fun, casual squad-based Warhammer RTS

I actually still own the Platinum Edition box set that contains the first 3 games, but I bought it again here to try Soulstorm. This was my entry point into both squad-based RTS games as well as the Warhammer universe, and if you're new to either of those things it will make a great starting point for you, too. The base game and the Winter Assault expansion are both skippable now that online multiplayer is dead. The campaigns were ok but I think you were limited to just one or two races during each one. It's hard to remember because I never return to them. If you're here, you're here for the Dark Crusade expansion and possibly Soulstorm, although I still haven't played it. Dark Crusade is a great sandbox campaign where you have a world map carved up into territories like Risk, where each territory is owned by one of the 7 playable factions. Each faction is lead by a legendary hero who you can upgrade after completing achievements, and each faction is different enough from each other to give the game a lot of variety. Infantry units are produced not as individuals but as 4-5 man squads that move and act together. Every unit has sort of ability that you can activate during battle in addition to their auto-attack and enough health that you don't need to have incredible APM to use them right. The best units of each faction are balanced by the fact that you can only build one or two at a time, and while they're fun to play with I feel like this causes me to always end up with the same army composition. Dark Crusade has a nice mix of skirmish matches as well as unique stronghold assaults where you're fighting tooth and nail for survival as soon as the match begins. I couldn't tell you whether or not they get Warhammer right, but I've never heard any complaints about it. The graphics have aged, but I still find the combat visually pleasing, filled with explosions and tracer rounds. If you're looking for a fun single-player RTS experience I can't recommend it enough.

The Definitive 40k RTS...until TW 40k.

Ok before I review the game itself I have to state that I was able to get the Ultimate Alliance mod for Soulstorm working with the GOG version. all I did was follow the instructions provided on their discord. Dawn of War: The OG, Only 3 factions for MP/Skirmish (Space Marines, Chaos Marines and Orks) and the campaign was rather short and focused on the space marines but is a decent campaign. Winter Assault: Added the Imperial Guard and a linear campaign that switches between the Guard and the Ultramarines IIRC showed a hint of what was to come in Dark Crusade. Dark Crusade: Probably my favorite of the series! added the Necron and the Tau factions and new units for the existing factions, had the non linear risk type campaign that was pretty fun to play. Soulstorm: I will admit, when this first came out, I was not impressed, added the Dark Eldar and the Sisters of Battle, had the same non linear campaign as DC, but I felt the DE and the SoB really didnt add much imo at the time. though with the Ultimate Apocalypse mod, Soulstorm ascends. So, get it, the GOG package is decent, but it lacks LAN and mods are a bit finnicky to install, but its doable, (will have guides up for UA at least when the forums for DoW are active.) hopefully LAN support is added. Also note: DoW is based from an earlier Edition of Warhammer 40,000 (4th Edition if i recall correctly so units missing from the current edition of this review's writing (2023) will be missing unless modded in.) If you have questions about the game or how to get mods going, feel free to PM me and I will do my best to help. TL:DR Decent Release, Needs LAN, 1 star subtracted due to missing LAN.

Great Warhammer 40K Game

Great Warhammer 40K Game! Loved playing it as a kid; and great for it to get the GOG treatment. Install was so much easier without CD/DVD swapping and having to put in all the required expansion codes to unlock the races in Skirmish Mode. The GOG install was a breeze and you only have to do it once. Unlike the games of the early 2000s; the graphics on their highest settings still look great (some of the specs yes use the old model atheistics (mainly in relation to the Dark Eldar.) but they can be replaced with mods as mentioned below (or enjoy the ‘retro’ feel. There are a lot of mods available for this game and really a masterpiece is you are a fan of RTS and Warhammer 40,000 Pretty much all the races are provided stock standard apart from Tyranids; but that and extra units are available as Mods. Cannot recommend the game enough!

One of the best RTS of the 2000s

First, I have to admit that I already own the game and did not obtain it here on GOG. My review concerns the game itself and does not cover some technical glitches. Warhammer 40k offers a balanced set of races, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The gameplay has managed to avoid the tedious multiple resource gathering, where you virtually cannot advance through the game (hello, Empire Earth). Instead, there are two resources - Requisition and Power. The building tree is not that complex, despite offering a decent depth and upgrades. However, this game is about fighting. Intense and never-ending shooting. Here, the loss of one unit is not fatal. You command squads of 4 (up to 10) units which can be replenished when sustaining damage and dying. As any other RTS, the key is finding the balance between different units in order to gain advantage. One more thing - the super units of every race are a tremendous sight to view. Extremely powerful, they can be produced on a late phase of the game and their presence is usually decisive for the final rush. The graphics have aged surprisingly well , given the fact that this game is almost 20 years old. The sounds are brutal - you just have to experience the depth of emotions and passion that the voice actors have embedded into the game. Final verdict - The game still rocks, even after so many years. The reason for this is purely objective and has nothing to do with nostalgia etc. I wholeheartedly recommend it to everybody who wants to experience a quality RTS.
