Now with the STORY MODE!

Playing the STORY MODE would be a great option for all those people that don't want to deal with hardcore puzzles. You won't miss much of the story but at the same time most of puzzles will be easier, require less conditions to be unlocked and you will deal with much less inventory objects. Some passages have been cut but the big part of the game is still there. If you are among those who gave up because the game felt too difficult this is also a good opportunity to give it a try again. Also you can still try the old school mode again once you have completed the story mode.

In a future not too far away, one Artificial Intelligence has prevailed over all other AIs and their governments. Society has migrated to a permanently integrated reality connected to a single neural network that continuously optimizes people's experiences by processing personal data.

Nathan, an outsider still refusing to comply with the new system, makes a living off the grid as a smuggler of modded hardware and cracked software. Geared with his custom headset, he is among the few that can still switch AVR off and see reality for what truly is.

He shares an apartment in the city with his girlfriend Jay, a talented AVR graffiti writer whose drones have been bit-spraying techno-color all over the augmented space in the city.

Waking up one morning, Nathan discovers that Jay disappeared overnight, but not before leaving a cryptic message on their bathroom mirror.

Having accidentally broken his custom headset, Nathan is now disconnected and determined to find out what happened to Jay, but he soon finds himself tangled up in an unexpected journey involving Jay's hacker group and a guild of AVR technomancers.

Travelling around the world, he'll have to deal with hardware graveyards, digital archeology, tribes of cryptoshamans, and virtual reality debauchery.

Great game, underrated in my opinion

I just finished the game, and it felt so much satisfying, while it has its problems, it has more bright sides that I enjoyed. First of all, I recommend playing this game on the hardcore mode, I felt like the devs did great job with the puzzles, and most of them are logical and solvable, I never resorted to a walkthrough and I recommend playing the same way, as it would spread out the game, and help absorb the story more completely. There are a lot of hints towards the harder puzzles, just exploring the game, talking to other characters, re reading dialogs can help a lot with finding whatever it is I was struggling with. If I had a struggle at one point of the game, I just took a break, went to do something else and then had an "AHA" moment where I would get understand what should I do, or what else I can try. The biggest weak point of the game is the writing of our protagonist Nathan, especially in the begging, his motives are unclear(Why is he looking so much for Jay? is he madly in love? is he desperate?) maybe they are explained but they are not felt, he dressed like an futuristic bad ass, but he is being way too nice at some scenarios, at one point he ranted about the injustices of society, which is a great thing to have in cyberpunk game, but it felt out of character for him at that moment, and more like "oh cute, this nice boy is trying to imitate Tyler Durden". And at the game we get to do a lot of punk stuff, so a little more dark Nathan would have been so appropriate and could have been on a cult level with Tyler Durden, But by the mid game I barely noticed it, I think the writing got better, or the supporting characters helped to understand him better. Anyway, this game is great for cyberpunk theme lovers, the story is punk, the art is super punk, the music is punk, I recommend this game as I enjoyed it so much, in an era where we didn't had a decent cyberpunk advanture game since technobabylon, this is a true gem.

boring pixel hunt, clunky controls

looks and sounds great, has demo, instant and silent text display, manual text advance toggle and manual saving anytime over multiple slots (though only 9 for some unacceptable reason), on top of an autosave, and the map can be used for fast travel between main locations. they even patched in a 'story mode' to reduce puzzle ridiculousness and inventory clutter for fans of 'modern adventures' (their words, as if there weren't any done properly in olden times). however, even this supposedly more modern experience isn't 100% mouseable. there's only an inventory icon to click, the journal and map are hotkey-only, though you can go back and forth, as it's the same gadget. would've been trivial to add the inventory to the mix, plus a mouse action to bring it up without clicking the top left corner, especially in a game boasting about 'thousands of combinations' (again, as if it adds anything but tedium). another big mistake is the missing hotspot indicator. gotta move the mouse all over the screens like a masochistic idiot to find out (and potentially miss) what's what. can't double-click to move faster or leave the screen instantly and all the text is white, making it hard to tell who's talking. bland story and characters, including an unlikeable protagonist, make it impossible to recommend, or in my case even finish.

Great atmosphere and art

Really great art and music and some of the writing is decent. Not spectacular and a lot the puzzles are not very fun. I would recommend against playing the old school puzzle mode. It’s my only real regret with this game. The ending is also a little offensive in an ecofascist kind of way. Despite that I think this is still a worthwhile point and click and has some unique features and some memorable moments.

This is so well made!

Really loved this, as a well crafted throw back point and click type of adventure, but has it's totally own vibe and style. A lot of love went into this, you can tell. Some of the puzzles can be a bit frustrating/illogical (an occasional pixel hunt and bewildering inventory item combination) but that just adds to a nostalgic - "totally stuck what next?" lay down all options bit by bit - feel that is reminiscent of early point-and-clicks. Bonus star for the music in this. Always dependant on your tastes, but I think it is great.

Beautiful and Immersive

This game does a wonderful job of folding you into its world. Every screen is thoughtfully laid out, stunning in detail and purposeful in moving the story forward. - Polished and Professional - Amazing soundtrack - Hands down best Pixel art in the industry - Intelligent dialog and story There is also a helpful and vibrant growing community behind this game that is frequented by the creators and cyberpunk enthusiasts alike on discord. As I continue to play and enjoy myself, the advice I would give for this game is take it slow, slip into the character and his cause, soak up the scenery and let the music pull you in further. VirtuaVerse is a pioneering game and is on its way to be a cornerstone of the genre. Do not pass it up.
