Vaporum

A very well made dungeon crawler. Difficulty, enemy appearance, puzzles and atmosphere all well designed and thought. It is **not** a traditional style dungeon crawler, so if you are looking for a steampunk version of Eye of the Beholder or Lands of Lore, you are not going to find it here. Gameplay is very different and so is the way you have to think about the game. Comparing Vaporum to Eye of the Beholder is like comparing Doom with Elder Scrolls. Some people complain that monsters randomly appear on your back out of thin air, but it is not true. These players didn't pay attention to the door that just opened in the other side of the room/corridor. The game is not as predictable as they suggest, although some predictability is obviously expected, ans as you obtain gameplay experience certain situations become easier, and that is how it should be. Player experience is an important thing in this game and in Dungeon Crawlers in general. As for combat, you need to think strategically in certain occasions, but for most of the situations the average player will be able to fight easily, specially as you keep becoming more skilled in combat mechanics. Regarding puzzles, they are in general doable, with a couple of them being of higher difficulty. Careful exploration is basically one of the main attractive points in Dungeon Crawlers and Vaporum offers some unique and challenging puzzles here and there that require extra attention to details and careful understandment of the environment. I am fully satisfied with the game and thankful with the job the developers did here and GOG for offering this fantastic title DRM free. Most likely will be playing Vaporum: Lockdown in the future.

When I played Legend of Grimrock I never expected there will be others, who will try to make modern dungeon crawlers - and will make them such well! ⚙ beautiful graphics and lighting ⚙ fantastic music, voice acting and sounds of steampunk machinery ⚙ variety of levels' styles, nice environmental puzzles ⚙ interesting story, even with some twists ⚙ superb ideas for gadgets and waeponry ⚙ demanding gameplay and enemies with option to switch difficulty level whenever you want ⚙ time-stopping feature bringing tactics to real-time fights ⚙ mapping with user notes option If you liked Grimrock you just have to play the game. For Linux users: the game works perfectly under Wine. For Polish players: the game received very good translation!

This game is somewhere between the simplicity of Grimrock 1 and more modern take of Grimrock 2 in playability, but with many of the things that annoyed me about those games fixed. (input queueing I'm looking at you) It's set in a bioshock-esque world with breadcrumb narration (text and voice logs). Allows for many builds ranging from 2-handed hammers to daggers, pistols to heavy cannons, self-buffs to pure elemental thaumaturge and anything in between. The game scratched an itch I didn't even know I had and it did so perfectly. By the time I got to floor 2 I ran back to GOG and bought the prequel while it's on sale.

I have never played a dungeon crawler before, but enjoyed this one a lot. The only minor flaw i saw was that one or two puzzles were too difficult for me, which might not be flaw at all for some seasoned players.

Legend of Grimrock meets Bioshock. Play as only a single character instead of a party. Nice graphics, good voice acting. Recommended.
