Metal Contra!

Valfaris is Metal Contra meets Slain-Back to Hell! It got twin stick shooting (you can't aim with the mouse, only use the keyboard if you don't have a controller), the aiming can be a little hard because of that. It has melee combat and plattforming. A lot of the gameplay is just shooting monsters (or aliens) , other is shooting everything while have to plattforming while the plattform is moving, that gives an additional challenge. The game is not a metroidvania, at least not as far as I can see. It's more like Contra and Slain, as you can't really track back to previous visited area, and it's more linear than a metroidvania. This is really not much like Blasphemous and Hollow Knight. Don't expect that kind of level design. Think more Volgarr the Viking.

Fun for a few hours but...

Then it stops feeling like METAL CONTRA YEEEHAW and becomes more like Bit.Trip Runner. Missed a single input? You died. Everything loses it's luster after a while when the action games bleeds out and it feels more like a rhythm game.

Solid platformer

A really fun game, amazing sound track and visuals. It's really not a metroidvania though, like Dark Knight. It's really more of a 2D Platform version of Doom. But it's pretty awesome for what it is. Very retro 80s metal feel throughout, like old console games. I think it's great. Xbox controller works well, controls are responsive, and it's a blast. Reminds me of old Sega games.

Instant classic

This is a HUGE step up The devs learned all the right lessons from Slain and delivered a super fun game cant wait till they are ready to deliver a full blown metal metroidvania like bloodstained

Classic Arcade Style Fun...and METAL

I have to admit, when I first booted up the game, I hated it, it wasn't what I was expecting. I gave it another go after admitting to myself that this isn't a Metroidvania but that isn't a bad thing. I'm glad I did because what I found is a very stylistic hardcore 2D Doom with some excellent old school arcade style gameplay and a pounding soundtrack that not only rocks some great metal riffs but has some ambiance to boot. I'm really enjoying the slick weapons with an interesting upgrade path, the choice of taking that save point or keeping the bonus and pushing on with a larger health bar hoping not to get slaughtered by the plethora of ever present enemies. Boss fights so far have been brutal but fair, be prepared to die a lot, but at least you don't have to dump endless quarters into this to enjoy the fun. Give this one a go, it's worth the ticket price. \m/-.-\m/
