Modern-day Fallout
As the title says. It's like the 2D Fallout games from the 90s, but modern. The gameplay is straightforward, It's a turn-based, isometric role playing game set in a post-apocalyptic, underground setting with an original story. That's it. I could talk about the gameplay and visuals and audio and bore you, but instead of repeating what others have already said, I'll give you an example of why Underrail is an exceptional game that you need to play. There's no map, which sounds awful at first until you realize that this is actually brilliant game design. Hear me out: Having an overworld map makes things easy, you don't have to think about where you need to go, you don't have to navigate the world, you just look at your map and head straight forward following a hard to miss road. Underrail doesn't have this, it has a convoluted series of screens connected to each other and you need to explore them first to even have a map to look at. And many of these areas in the beginning have tough enemies that WILL kill you. This forces the player to pay attention when talking to NPCs and memorize and actually use the directions given to him. It's no longer "Here, I market it on your map", it's now "Go left, then head straight, then make 2 rights and BOOM, you're there." and that's genius. Whether it's intentional or not by the devs, this makes the game world feel. Now later it the game when you get to Core City this fades away somewhat because you're familiar with the game, but it nonetheless imposes the atmosphere of being trapped inside a system of tunnels for the duration of the game. Go play it.
