Not for me
I don't know what I was expecting. I started to play it but didn't really get through the tutorial before I thought that I didn't want to do it. Made a stealth based character. Couldn't stealth worth anything. I realized I would be in for a bad time. Don't know how to refund the game because it is way more of a hassle than steam.

Blue in the face! SCREAMING FRUSTRATION!
Enemy bodies can fall into unclickable places.Your person can randomly go running places you didn't click and get killed.Game mocks players who suffer from bad merchants with a sad frustrated NPC who can't sell anything.Environment graphics are way better than character graphics, which seem like they come from two separate mismatched games.Characters you create don't match their appearance in game. There seem to be different looks, but no way to customize freely.(not clothing)The game suffers from the same problem that StarWars KOTOR2 suffers from in the sense that there IS the option to side with different factions, but the requirements are extremely unclear for some. You can follow strategy guides and do everything you think is the correct choice, but then the game wont even care how much effort you put into making it BLATANTLY OBVIOUS that you wanted to help them, and there will be much friendly back and forth and then they will suddenly decide to kill you for NO REASON and wont let you explain yourself. There are many times you're not allowed to touch anything, but you must click a person.Click in slightly the wrong place and everyone will suddenly murder you without hesitation. No matter how hard I tried,I discover my playthrough is ruined because the game decided to make NPC's decide I did ?SOMETHING? wrong and now they hate me without any indication as to why or any chance to fix it.Imagine investing so many DAYS into a game and then the game says "LOL wow nice effort" *FLUSH*All of this while CONSTANTLY grinding through unfair enemies that kill you on easy mode.FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Near the end of the game I PERSONALLY KILLED THE LEADER OF THE OPPOSING FACTION (Who's name I WILL NOT mention since I don't spoil games), I then went to the OTHER faction (sworn enemies to the one I killed), THEY READ MY MIND to confirm I was really with them,(and I WAS)and then they called me a SPY and MURDERED ME for NO REASON...WHY! WHY!!!? IMMERSION:SHATTERED. EXPERIENCE:RUINED.

Metagame bonanza
I didn't enjoy my time in UnderRail. Based on the game description, screenshots, and online discourse, I was expecting something akin to Fallout. What I got instead felt more like modern chess. That on paper may sound like a compliment, but the core of the comparison is the advantage that rote memorization of things like oddity locations, character builds, and so on, have on the game balance. To me, the game *feels* balanced around an assumption that you've played it already. That's fine in grand strategies, 4x games, and so on (of which I'm a great fan), but in my opinion, not so great in a classical RPG, which UnderRail counts as. The main juice of the game is in the story and I'm hard pressed to replay these games more than once a decade when so many other great rpgs on the market. To give credit where it's due, UnderRail has amazing ambience and quests, but the way the game functions on default settings was tedious more than anything.
