At the beginning of your epic adventure, a mercenary mission takes you to the far north - but you’re also following up a mysterious lead at the same time – the first clue you’ve been given since Kyra’s disappearance. You're shocked during a meeting with the delegates of a dark Brotherhood - your sister’s kidnappers are indeed after your family’s relic. Whether there’s any truth in your family being the chosen ones or not, the others obviously believe it - and if you ever want to see Kyra again, you’ll have to act swiftly. You are the only person able to unlock the secrets of a dead god's tomb, and all the forces in the land want your help to seize its power.

TwoWorlds compared to Oblivion

Mounted on a horse, I can charge through combat in TwoWorlds, where Oblivion only offers a horse for transport. My favorite feature of TwoWorlds is the extra damage and protection offered by mounted combat. I still recall an Orc Shamen's fireball killing off my horse, from months ago. TwoWorlds introduces spell modifiers, where you can reduce cost, boost duration or damage. To optimize I found myself moving these boosters around. I also found a way to use spells that was overpowered in TwoWorlds, which isn't as well balanced as Oblivion. I really appreciated the connected portals in TwoWorlds that allow me to sell off loot and resume adventuring quickly. You can use a portal once you find it - and have gone through the early quest to get portal activation stones. Much better movement between locations on the large map in TwoWorlds. And much less time picking loot to keep, and hiking back to town to sell it. I'd recommend experiencing combat mounted on a horse, and the transportation portals of TwoWorlds. They're the two most notable advantages over Oblivion in my view, but that said both games rank among my favorites.

Stay Away

GoG Reviews always tend to bias towards the high side, I suspect because many of these games are quite old now and the only people seeking them out are people who had fond memories of them. I normally don't care. However to see this game get a near 3 1/2 to 4 stars is insane. This is one of the worst ARPG's around, awkward across all fronts. Cringe animations, cringe story, cringe voice acting, cringe writing. The combat is the most basic "Click as fast as you can" fest you can imagine. There is little to no strategy to it, the enemies are twitchy and random with seemingly broken AI. Almost nothing is a threat, and I was able to start a new game and simply run into the end-game areas without being killed by anything. This game makes Gothic 3 look good, so if you think Gothic 3 is a good game... well, maybe you will enjoy this. These sorts of games are examples of taking on WAY more than the developers can handle, but also shows that the developers lack any sort of vision. The game is standard high fantasy fare, and even then its incredibly bland.

A very good open-world rpg experience

Pay no attention to the griping about the voice acting…it’s not that bad at all…you get used to the ye oldie medievalisms soon enough. The voice acting is infinitely better than Oblivion’s, where the budget was blown on paying for a couple of stars (I thought Bean was unimpressive) and the rest of the NPCs were voiced by half a dozen mediocre voice actors. This game has a very large open world, and it does not scale to the PC so be careful where you wander. Combat is very tactical; I find it excellent. Learn to jump back before an enemy strikes; and use traps to reduce the number of opponents attacking you at one time. I dont use offensive magic much, just the defensive sort, healing and buffs etc, but the game has a very interesting magic system. I mainly use 2-handed swords and bows. Bows to draw enemies into my traps; and swords to fight. There is a large selection of weapons and equipment and interesting mechanics that allow you combine equipment of the same kind to boost stats. In fact the martial equipment and magic and alchemy systems are all enjoyable mini-games of collection and combination in themselves…oh, and shopping…I hope you like shopping. I havent finished the game yet so I can only say that the story and the side quests thus far are fine. In one sense they are standard RPG fare; but as the game unfolds the quest lines reveal the innards of the world to you; and in a way that I prefer…ie show don’t say. And your actions do affect the world. The game runs flawlessly for me; never had a crash or a freeze. There are some oddities here and there. For instance the world is often hilly and as you cross certain altitudes going up or down the sound ambience can suddenly shift in a most awkward and unnatural way. But that’s a very minor quibble in the light of the enthralling and beautifull world created by the designers. I have no hesitation in recommending Two Worlds to all gamers who enjoy being thrown into a wide open sandbox world with lots to do and see; and in which it’s up to you to fight and quest your way into an unfolding world of adventure and intrigue….and shopping.

A Hidden Gem

I got this game specifically to play on an older laptop. I don't know why I didn't think about putting Morrowind or Oblivion on it, but now that I've started playing it, I'm loving it. I did load a few mods (use the Two Worlds CP) and setup a couple AutoHotKey scripts (you'll have to assign them to your mouse buttons as the game blocks keyboard scripts), but overall, I'd buy it again. The only gripe I have has nothing to do with the game's play itself, but the fact that the SDK for mods was released exclusively to one site, who has since blocked all downloads and registration. Get it though, it's worth it!

Seriously appalling game dont buy it

Where to begin? The voice acting is bad and doesnt have the redeeming feature of being funny about it, it just sucks. The games plot is boring and doesnt draw you in at all. The graphics being cr*p is nothing to do with being dated... its simply cr*p. I am a lover of RPG games be it Baldurs Gate, Fallout or the Elder Scrolls series so to be disappointed so massively by a game of this genre says a lot! I bought this for the xbox360 a year ago from the 2nd hand shelves and returned it the same day. I suspect the high ratings doing so well is down to die hard fans rating up all the 5*s and down all the lower ones so if you dont believe me please go seek an independant review away from this site. I personally have been stung buying many lemons off this on the basis of the biased review system and hopefully can save a few from wasting their money with this review.
