Fun Classic FPS Reborn

I distinctly remember playing this on Nintendo 64 and while it was fun, I could never beat it with a 64 controller. It then came as a complete surprise hearing about this game being re-released back in 2015. And now being able to play it again with updated controls definitely makes for a fun, but brief run-and-gun shooter. The combination of level-exploring with key and weapon-hunting still feels like a joy to play. The music is also pleasing to listen to, with funky weird beats while circle-strafing Velociraptors! It never gets old. Is it worth it for the price? In my humble opinion, yes - if you intend to play it more than once. All in all, one play-through took me about 8 hours total. What's the game about? - Being a Badass Kiowa-Apache on a super sweet quest involving shooting Dinosaurs, Ancient Warriors, and Robots! - Shooting Dinosaurs that SHOOT back! - Ninja Circle-Strafing a Raptor with a Knife! - Platforming levels that are so vertical that your fear of heights may get triggered! - Intense Boss Fights! A T-Rex shoots lasers out of its EYES dude! - Music worth jamming to man. - Plenty of secrets to find. The game's plot is: You are Tal'Set (a descendant of Pal'Seg'Na'Saquin) on a quest in the Lost Lands to defeat the Evil Overlord known as the Campaigner, whom seeks to find an ancient alien weapon that could forever destroy the barriers that separate realities throughout the Universe.

Great to finally play once again

I loved the original Turok and this was a welcome addition to my game library. The game is a little easier than I remember it, but back then I was using a controller, and most of us have gotten really good at FPS too. It's fairly straight forward level design and game play. It is back to the basics, when you played games because they were fun, not because they had real life graphics or online multiplayer. The graphic updates are great, but of course it can't compete with current gen graphics, and it's not supposed to. It does well for how old it is and although I think the price is a bit high, not completely unreasonable. If it is too high for you, just wait until a sale and grab it.

3D accelerated goodness

Ok, it might not look like much but trust me, I finished this game several times and it's the best low poly adventure you will ever get thanks to a great art direction. Only the platforming sequences, oh God, the platforming sequences! Jumping in this game is your enemy but it's not that bad so if you can cash it out, go for it. It's fun and tasty!

Important information for parents.

Haven't gotten very far into the game yet, so i can't exactly review the whole thing, but one thing that parents in particular should know is that, while the game is rated M for blood, gore and violence, the blood and gore can be disabled in the "gameplay" settings menu. This does not exactly fix the violence, but it makes the difference between a somewhat intense adventure game and the worst mess iv seen since a racoon broke into my chicken coop (don't ask).

OK 10 characters

Only got it because I played it a lot on n64 as a child and it was on sale. It doesn't have the excessive fog and terrible controls of the n64 version. I was quite surprised how fast you move, I didn't remember it being a fast game but looking at videos on youtube it seems even the n64 version was fairly fast movement wise. I am going to play this in short bursts, maybe a level at a time or even just to the next save point each session, it gets quite tedious. The previously mentioned save point system is annoying, wish they had added a quicksave. The enemies respawn, sometimes right in front of you, at least they make it obvious with a beam if light and they don't instantly materialise giving you time to react. There is a platforming which I despise in first person games especially ones where you can't see your feet but it is just about bearable for me here. You don't have any momentum or ice skaty feeling controls like say half life, if you let go of w you stop even in mid air, makes the platforming less annoying.
