Turok was my first FPS on my first crappy computer, so for me it's about nostalgia and memories. The features added by this remake are options to play in widescreen HD resolutions, options to use antialiasing, new and more special effects, as well as gameplay options and better controls. Sadly enough, these improvements aren't Night Dive Studios doing, it's originally done by the same person that did Doom 64 EX, which is also stated in other reviews on GOG.com. I definitely enjoy the game with the new features available. However, there's one massive problem. The levels are NOT the same they were in the original release, there have been changes! Level layout, pathfinding, hidden and secret areas as well as key locations. The changes are minor and subtle most of the time, plus only small portions of the game are affected, but still! It is very important to me to state that this remake IS NOT THE EXACT SAME GAME AS THE ORIGINAL! Despite some of the less detailed reviews posted here. Be aware of that! The changes came to my attention because I was looking for a specific hidden area in the very first level about five to ten minutes into the game, where you can get an automated shotgun by climbing a dark section of wall within a small ravine that doesn't look climbable at first. That spot doesn't exist in the remake version, instead they added a completely new open area with a ruin, some water and a switch, plus a new, more obvious hidden area with the same reward, an automatic shotgun, right there. Now, since the original release version is still available as abandonware that can be run even on Windows 7 (can't tell if the legal situation changes because of the release of this remake now) and since the levels in the remake were changed compared to the original, I don't think 20 bucks is an acceptable price. Around ten bucks or below would be fine. I rate the remake three stars with the offer and the background as it is. Best regards
